I'd take a 1/2 ton deisel in a heartbeat (wait, make it a Ford ;) )

That describes me perfectly, and it's part of the reason why I own a pickup. The resale piece, better fuel mileage, etc., will all figure into my decision on my next truck.

builder good points and im an advicate of owning what you need and you defiantly need diesel power and torque.
ya ive got one of those 1/2 tons with every possible option and love it but thats just how i am. why wish you had something later. i do have 2 kids and we use my truck for just about every family outing to home depot,lol. really though every time we go somewhere we are in the truck.
i based my numbers for the c4500 off of a couple my brother was selling for 28k, they were 06 models and did not have many acessories beside the d-max. they were end of the year deals but still they were only about 5k to 8k off of sticker.
i did some amazing stuff when i had the little bx 23 to dig deeper i dug a ramp down to load higher i built a ramp up but it was slow for me and didnt have the power i needed to move larger rocks and dig bigger stumps. i know you had alot of issues with your past tractor and i solved mine by moving up to a b3030 just like you solved yours with the case.

what i dont like to see is someone like my neighbor who ones a 3/4 ton d-max and i have never seen him pull anything but then again he also owns a zd326 to mow 1 acre. some people just like spending money on things they want.

I know what you mean. We got dozens of chicks running around in crewcab dually diesel 4x4's and never carry much more than their lipstick and lattes around in them. Kinda funny-you look in the bed in back and there's nothing but shiny paint.

Seriously-You oughta find yourself one of the few remaining '07 "dirty diesels" (no DPF) before they'e all gone. It'd make more sense for your business, you'll increase fuel savings, plus you'll get a nice payback when you trade it in.

NOW is the time to buy, there's very few '07's left, but they're really nice without the DPF.

Think about it. It makes so much sense for you to be driving a diesel....especially an '07.

i want one, i need one, but right now i cant buy one. :( In a week or so im going back to full time dealership work, so maybe i will be able to get a better insider deal. last time i checked there was 4k off that truck and 0%

Trucks are a tool/necessity, just like a tractor. I have a 2006 chevy 1500hd with the 6.0 engine and towing package. I went with the 4x2, because even living in NY(southern) I only use 4x4 maybe once a year. I traded the 4x4 value for crew cab comfort. It hauls great and it's almost always full of something. Mind you, this is my weekend vehicle. I commute with a smaller car. My wife has a soccer mom car. The extra passenger space is a big bonus. I'll sit and wait to see how this deisel works out. I also agree with the poster as faw as deisel resale. You get most of your initial investment back on trade or sale

They will be produced at the Tonawanda Engine plant. If the design is well engineered I know the assembly will be top shelf, as Tonawanda has won many quality awards. That plant has come a looooooong way in the last 10 years.

I agree--at least to a point.
I'd like a inline 4 cyl diesel (3 or 3.5 liter) for a 1/2 ton that produced 300-350ft/lb of torque.

I used to have 93' Dodge 3/4 ton that only produced 160 hp and a measly 400 ft/lb or torque-that would do anything I asked. Apparently that just won't cut it anymore even for a 1/2 ton. BTW- that' what the 5.9 Liter Cummins was rated for in 1993.

it will be interesting to know what kind of mpg the new diesel engines are getting with the dpf and low sulfer.
another thing to consider is the epa standards have changed alot in the past 20 years which is why we see the fall of so many engine that finally got all the kinks worked out.

one of the best car engines gm has made in the past 10 years is the 3800, but we will see it going away real soon because its not epa compliant after x date.

by the time this thing hits the road gm will have the fuel system kinks worked out due to the current d-max, the d-max engine is a solid power plant thats good for 100's of 1000's of miles.

like bob lutz said " no we are not going to discount the dmax, the only reason not to own a gm is you cant aford it" :D

From what I hear & read the fuel mileage is lower than the previous dirty diesels, like mine. The DPF adds weight to the truck and actually uses fuel to complete the regen process, so it would stand to reason that there would be a fuel economy penalty. I think it also makes the engine run hotter and it increases backpressure, reducing efficiency even further.
