Building a Snow Plow :)

This build brings back teenage episodes for me.
Way back then I kinda hooked a plow made from plywood and scraps of hardwood with bedspring angles as cutting edge that I hung off of my early VW beetle bumper.
My 'lift' mechanism was a hockey stick firmly attached with bolts and a cord that I pulled for lifting from the open driver's window.
As crude as it was, it worked very well on loose powdery snow.In the heavier wet snow it simply tore apart, but it was all fun.
In those days the neighbors paid $1.00/hr for us to shovel the drives.
That was when snow shovels were made from wood!

hehehehehe,

I'm glad I was able to bring you back on your Memory Lane

It was definitely for FUN, what else am I gonna do with bunch of FREE good Pine Boards and Botls, Screws....

If I had to pay for it, I would have gotten Metals and Weld a good Plow. But then again, why bother go through all that while I can go to CL and get one for $100 Bucks.

But it's FUN though to go back to your Memory Lane i'm sure;) Wish someone take me back to those days :):D

Although I must say, that's pretty inventive of you using your surrounding to your advantage. Your Teenage Brain must be working full-time back then

LOL

Very interesting build and thread. I like your ingenuity.

I have one suggestion. Replace the side boards with braces on the back of the plow, like those on truck plows. This would probably add strength and let the snow roll off the sides easier.

The idea would be to cut some plywood sections to match the profile of the blade. Double or triple each brace. Put one on each end and maybe on or two more in the middle.

Here's a drawing of showing braces cut out of plywood. Something to consider anyway.

Well here is the Update.

I decided to get a Snowthrower since I found on CL for $180

In the process of getting it together as you can see. The Ground / Driveway is NOT flat and the Sidewalk kinda that way too, so I went and purchase the Thrower instead. Now what am I gonna do with the Snow Blade? LOL

Put it in the house of fame. It's too cool to junk it. Maybe give it to a neighbor.
