Camera Security Systems???

I'm looking at a new unit for the new home build. I currently have a Samsung and an older Panasonic IP system but am leaning towards the Lorex 16 4K unit and right now Lorex is having a Black Friday sale at 25%off.

Thoughts?

I have a Lorex system and very happy. DVR with 8 1080P BNC wired cameras

A short video off one of my Lorex cameras. It was part of the 4K, 8 camera package.

I don't often have anything interesting to retrieve from my cameras to put on display. I received a heavy delivery the other day. These are clips from my $150 2MP 1080HD Vivotek cameras.

DISCLAIMERS HERE: They are currently in very bad need of spiderweb removal. I lost some quality in the editing software stitching the clips together and more in the YouTube processing (which is typical and expected; the original video files from the cameras are much better). The couple times during the video that freeze, I'm not sure where that came from, the original videos play smoothly.

Here is another Vivotek camera I installed about 4 years ago. It has a 5MP sensor and I uploaded the raw video to YouTube so the only loss was their processing.

no knocks... I think for a plug and play, the Lorex system is hard to beat. But my experience was not good long term. Now I am going with a DIY type of set up that will allow customization and is more future proof. Could be kidding myself but my next system better last more than two years. I don't not recommend a kit but I am moving past that. And that said the money spent will be worth examining.

Agreed. This is why I like Vivotek. They make cameras for all applications and at all price points. You pick and choose what you want and configure it however you need. The learning curve is higher than a kit, but the end result is better.

I've been using them for nearly ten years and have only had four failures out of about 100 cameras. All failures were within warranty and the process for replacement was pain free.

What really sells me on Vivotek is the ability to create live copies of the video in multiple places. Crooks commonly steal DVR boxes, with Vivotek they need to steal every computer, any boxes that could be network storage, any router that may accept a USB drive for network storage, and even climb ladders to steal the cameras.

IF it does discourage a crime, then really a fake one will work equally well. Actually, I prefer real, but defective ones! I have been in the security bus for almost thirty years. I sell camera systems to institutions and business where they are useful. I sell door intercoms with cameras that are useful. I won't sell residential camera systems, because I find them misunderstood and for the most part useless in preventing crime against my customers, and THAT is my business.

Now dagnabbedit, just when I thought things were going okay in my reading and research in all this camera mess, then I read this! Oh me, Industrial, what will we do, what will we do?

Ok, finally read all this mess. And, it is a mess. I have the Ring doorbell, and love it, except battery only lasts about a month. I bought the solar charger, but that thing is as useless as a sow with a saddle. And it's south facing. Problem is, my doorbell wire thingamajig or something is broken. Probably that transformer thing in attic, that the new one I bought at Lowe's says to not install in attic! Hey entrepreneurs, there is a BIG market for a Macintosh easy to use, install, etc., home camera system! Ring is close.

I always like when people see video and the immediate question is "Is that you?". Making my point about identifying people on video.

We have been feeding "some" animal up at our pond for some time. We would like to know what it is. I had various stuff lying around so, I thought I would rig something up. There is no power so I have to bring a car battery up there. I am using a small single channel motion activated recorder, 12 volts, about the size of a pack of cigarettes. Nice thing is, it keeps it's time.

I used some junk camera that was ripped out of somewhere. Anyway, no night vision, food gone and no image.

Then I used a illuminated camera. One trip, I forgot the recorder, and two other trips, food has not been touched. That's a first! And the LEDs use more power so I have to keep bringing the battery back for charging.

Last night, food gone, and for whatever reason, no image. There was a snowstorm so maybe the camera was covered. If that had been for a customer, I would have been hard pressed to explain.

I think I have made a dozen trips, for this quick and simple project. And since there is no more money in camera systems, like there used to be, it's the reason I do such jobs very selectively. You can waste a pile of time.
