Harv, thanks for the reminder. Things have been busy. Finally catching up on my photos.

Here's a photo of the first SIP going on at the NE corner. It's a 4 1/2" thick panel (3 1/2" of foam between 1/2" OSB). Panels are 4' wide and extend from the sill to the eave, and fastened with 7" galvanized pole barn nails.

That fellow in the green shirt on the right in the first picture doesn't look like he is happy with something that is going on. Is that a badge on his chest? The green "uniform" looks like the MA Environmental Police. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Hope that it isn't and that he is just a casual visitor playing side walk supertendent... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's the father of the owner, and he's giving a pointer to some of the less experience crew.
Here's a picture of the entire NH crew, taking a bow after raising the frame.

It does look like fun. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And the cardinal rule on fun is, you have to share.

There are but a few things I want to do before I die. Building a timber frame is one.

But then if it comes around that I don't get to go before I complete the list of things I want to do, well, heck, I'll live forever. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks for thinking of us. And keep the pictures coming.

Sorry for the delay in posting more pics. Here's another batch.

The gable end panels are all on, and that's good progress. Here's and end of day shot from the hill just south of the barn.

Now that we've got most of the walls up, the dogs can come visit for the afternoon. They've been curious but with the heavy equipment it hasn't been safe to let them hang out like they'd like to .

I noticed that the trees are turning colors, so you had better get going, or you will have snow on the floor soon..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Holy Smokes! I just stumbled across this thread. That is one sweet "barn". Boy, am I envious. Hoping to get a garage/barn up this fall (running out of time), but it won't be that well built. That barn definitely will last a good 100 years.

Yep, starting to get a sixth sense for when my TBN friends get hungry for more pics. Kind of like the older dog (she's 12, the bigger one of the 2), somewhere between 3:55 pm and 4:05 pm she taps your leg with her paw saying it's time for supper. You can set your watch by it.

Here are the "girls" again, hanging out in the barn, now that the panels are on. You'll notice the cutouts for the windows. Routed between the OSB surfaces 1 1/2" deep to allow for a 2x4 to be nailed in to form a stud frame for the windows.

More wall panels to go and finish up. The site forklift was used to move them into place.

A better view of the operation. The guy on the top is going to fasten it up on the top plate, with another on the bottom to hold it and nail it to the sill and rim board.

Setting the panel on the sill. The bottom of the panel sits right on the sill and is toe-nailed to it, and also nailed with 7" pole barn nails to the posts. Wall panels are almost all on.

Thank you.

I feel better now.

BTW what are you doing the twenty fifth? Like bar b que? world's best beans? killer queso and chips? BS?

Thanks for the update and photos!

It's a most impressive building, almost a shame to call it a barn.

Those posts really impress me. What size are they?

Harv, love BBQ! Of course we have Boston baked beans up this way, but I'm sure yours are better. Rumor in Massachusetts is that George W will show up to a lot of BBQ's in Texas -- if he's coming on the 25th I'll show up!

Eddie, the timber posts are 8x12 on the two central posts supporting the ridge, 6x10 on the corners, and 6x12 in the edges in the center. Some of the horizontal timbers are 8x12 and a couple are 8x14. Almost all are eastern white pine, except needed to upgrade a few to douglas fir to carry the load in a few places.

Glad you like the pictures. More will be coming as soon as I get a chance to process them.

Oh boy! I can't believe I didn't read this thread before now. Bebster that is one great looking structure.

The more recent aerial shots are nice. Show the proximity of the water and the context of the setting you are trying to preserve.

Are you going to be able to get any finishing protection up before this upcomming winter. Any danger to the exposed wood if you don't.

Great project.
