Rockyridge, great group of folks here in your club. I thought as a non club member I would make the 100th post since the oppourtunity was available /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. From an outsider looking at some of your posts, I'd like to see some pictures of projects you have done with your 4310's. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Rat...

After lurking around for about a 1 1/2 years, I finally figured out how to log on. Registered a while back, but could never log in. Had to enable all cookies on my browser, now things work fine!

Bought a used 4310, Power reverser, with 420 loader, and 47 hoe, on 7/24/03. Got a 16' steel deck, flatbed tag trailer, 2 3500 lb. axles with brakes, tilt up ramps, 4 heavy transport chains, binders, locks, all for $20,000.00
Tractor had 21 hours on it when I bought it, now has 52 hrs.

Wish it had had the 430 loader and 48 hoe, but I saved over $6,000.00 from the best quote I got from 4 dealers for an E-Hydro with the bigger loader and hoe, and got a free trailer.

Dealer said I could upgrade the loader, but at $1,100.00, I think I'll just get along with what I got.

Tractor works great, and I have been very impressed so far. Have to do the 50 hr. service next, kind of pricey for all the filters, oil, etc., but I guess if your going to play (work), you have to pay.

Anyway, this is a great forum, and I have learned a lot from all of you experts. Thanks for all the information.

Keep the shiny side up,
DT

Congratulations DT!
Glad you were able to get back on the site here.
The 4310 is great. Did you get a lot done in your first 50 hours?

I am curious on how you did the 550 foot trench. That is one thing on my "List" of upcoming things when I get my tractor and start working on the property where our next (last) house will be. PICS would be great if you've got any!

Thanks
Kevin
Loudoun VA now, Clarke VA soon, still tractor shopping!

Hello Kevin-

I had to dig this trench so I could run power and a phone line to our electric gate. After much head scratching, I figured that the best way to go would be to rent a trencher. Since I was running this trench in my front yard, I wanted keep the trench as neat as possible. I ended up getting a 36" trencher from Sunbelt Rentals and when I got it home, I soon realized that while it had no problem cutting the trench, it would lose traction easliy and remain in one place. This repeatedly happened after I cut only about 10 feet of trench. So after more headscratching I hooked up the trencher to the 4310 and had my brother tow it while I worked the controls on the trencher. This worked so perfect that we had the trench dug in no time! After the trench was dug, we laid 550 of #8 THHN wire, and 550 feet of Cat 5, both which were wrapped in conduit. Once that was done, I fired up the 4310, attached my rear blade, and started to push the dirt back into the trench all the way down the line. Once the dirt was pushed back, I then used the blade to compact and smooth it. I will try to get some pics of the 550 "brown snake" that I have running down my yard, which will hopefully not wash away with all this rain! To be honest, I can't imagine doing this project without the tractor. I am sure you could do it by hand, if you had 6 months to finish it! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

I understand your confusion Mike. I was thinking about the scene in Blazing Saddles with the Black sheriff getting in line to sign up with the Mexican Bandidos, Hells Angels, ****'s, and other hard characters to go after the Black sheriff and his deputy (Gene Wilder). Something about that scene still cracks me up when the Black sheriff yells over to the KKK guys and says, oh boys, yoo hoo boys, where's the white women? Today it seems almost to be incorrect to even present a scene like that, but I still have to laugh everytime I hear the sheriff saying that in mind. That and the Bandidos saying, badges, we don't need no stinking badges. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anyway, I did not want the 4310 club thread to fall into page two and then three and then TBN's vast past of forgotten threads. Kinda like the "No Joy Joystick" of Jim's in NH.

Guess I'm a dolt, I had reprogram the boss's Winders so those very expressions woud replace the regular dings and whirrs. 'Round here, Blazing Saddles is sorta immortal.

I was going to start a new subject but since this question is directly related to the popularity of the 4310 I guess it fits here.

Does anyone know where to find John Deere's sales numbers by model? The 4310 has to be one of the highest volume items that Deere has. The reason I ask is, I stopped at the local JD dealership the other day and saw a very impressive precision model of a JD 650 dozer. Very cool, looked like a real dozer shrunken down to about a foot long! I started thinking later how neat a 4310 in that detail would look on my desk at work. I'll bet that JD could sell a bunch of them (the models) if they were offered, judging from the apparent popularity of the 4310. The dozer was about $135.00 plus tax. Not cheap, but considering the detail, not unreasonable. I assume they came out with that model because it is probably their most popular sized dozer.

Does anyone how the numbers, 650 dozer vs 4310, compare?

just plain Bob (I bow to Mr. Barker's seniority /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif)

They DO have a 1/16 scale 4310. (I have it and the hoe, haven't tracked down the FEL yet. Both are generic) There is a chain drive 4300 ride on. The 4310 seems to be the model they use for fun stuff. Sure would be nice to see that larger scale....

Try Tractor Supply Co. for the John Deere models. Thier getting a whole slew of them in for Christmas. I believe I saw a 4310 model at the local TSC this past week.

Thats because the 4310 is a little toy. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've seen the 1:16 4310. Don't think that it had a FEL. I think that it came with a MMM and a snowblower. Wasn't anywhere near as detailed as the dozer.

I like playing with my full sized 4310 but it won't fit on my desk. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Do I need to state the obvious?? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Get a BIGGER desk! You're boss would probably appreciate you wanting to take more on anyway! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Sorry, I couldn't pass it up. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I got a bigger desk then everyone else would want one too. I don't see a bigger desk in my future. I've been out of work because of injuries aquired while medicating an uncooperative horse so I'll probably be lucky to have any desk at all by the time I go back. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sorry to hear about your trouble. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If your injury was a work related one, isn't it considered a worker comp injury? If it is, you shouldn't have to worry about your job while you're off. At least, that's the way it is in Wisconsin.
