Deckover vs standard equipment trailer

I think the OP described the trade-offs well. The biggest factor is whether you need the width. If not, the lower height seems like it would be more convenient.

I needed the extra width, and 10,000 GVWR was plenty for everything I need to haul.

Once you get over 10k and 16’ long, Deck over all the way. Better for side loading/unloading. Wider. No fenders to get ruined.

I had a 10k deckover. Too high, ramps too steep. Then a 14k equipment trailer which was OK, just bigger than what I needed. And now a 10k Big Tex equipment trailer with mega ramps. I like the Big Tex best of them, easy to load and low to the ground. I can put a pallet of whatever in front of the fenders and the flat part is 18' long.

Never had a deck over but I understand the pros of having one for some uses. This was a compromise.

Hauls my 110 TLB just fine. The fenders are removable. Haven’t needed to remove them.

I hauled 8 full pallets of plasma cutters on a standard trailer that I rented. A pallet jack did quick work to position the loads. That convinced me that there’s a workaround available plus there wasn’t a need for a deckover when looking for a trailer so I went with a 16’ 12k trailer. I liked that my load is lower to the ground. To each it’s own.

u can always add drive on fenders. i have a 18ft open car trailer with regular fenders.

8 lug wheels, at least 10K, could easily be 12K.

I saw that, I was wanting to know what he said. That tractor has to be 8500 lbs and the trailer itself weighs 2500 lbs. The half ton is definitely overloaded.

Could even be a 14k. Infact Id say either 14k or 12k. IF it was a 10k it would most likely only have 6-lug wheels.

That half ton doesnt look to be hurting too bad, so thats a pretty good load positioning. But certainly a workout towing
