Don't fill it right to the top. Best advice is keep track of how much you're putting in the front axle. And don't be afraid of the trans/hyd. In the front axle, you're not building enough heat through normal use to get good flow of the thicker oil. Just my opinion. Mostly.

The Manual states that the capacity of the front axle is 4.2 quarts.

Engine capacity is 2.7 quarts.

Transmission and differential housing is 2.9 gallons.

I called the dealer where I bought my tractor for pricing of the AGCO Permatran fluid. It was right around $40 per gallon. I also looked up the price of the Amsoil fluid, and it is was $10.80 a quart, so very similar in price. Hmmm, maybe I'll buy the Amsoil instead, and go against my original thinking!!:confused2:

Amsoil ATH costs about twice as much as Permatran, by the 5 gallon pail. Your can shop around for prices on Amsoil, from a local dealer. Sometimes, they deal.

Since, ATH is synthetic oil, you can theoretically run it longer. And then, the cost difference would be diminished.

My property is more or less finished. The tractor is on light duty now, and not used a lot. And, it's always parked indoors.

I do not run it much, in dirty, dusty conditions. Which, is a big factor in contaminating the hydraulic oil.

I am running ATH synthetic. At some point, I may change the filter again. But, I potentially may never change the hydraulic oil again.

Your dealer is not your friend. I bought a Five gallon bucket of Permatran for less than $90 and oil was a lot more expensive 18 months ago.

For the record, I don't think the lady I talked to had the price right for the permatran fluid. I called back today, and a different person quoted me $98 for a 5 gallon bucket of permatran. I called a different dealer much closer to me, and they were at $75 for a 5 gallon bucket. I've only got 20 hours on my machine, so it will be a while before I hit 50, and will make my decision then.

Whew! That's a relief the price hadn't gone up that much. :D

If you are newer to tractors you may or may not know about dealer spring promotions on parts and supplies. You may get a flyer in the mail or email. I did from a different dealer that is close to me. But sometimes its smart to call your dealer to find out if they had one/have one/ or will be having one soon.

My dealer didn't send me anything vecause they figured I was "too far away" . . But I called them right as a salevwas ending and I got 2 fuel filters, 1 oil filter, 1 hydro filter and a 5 gallon bucket of permatran 821 for 130.00 plus tax.

Interestingly, I had gotten some wix oil filters that are directly compatible . . Had a 5.00 off coupon and my fuel filter from the dealer was still cheaper on this sale than what I paid at the auto parts store on sale. Go figure that one lol.

The only thing I'll get somewhere else is the synthetic gear oil . . that was pricey at the dealer. So Saturday I'll pick up the products and the savings will pay my cost to get to the dealer seminar/open house :)

Good deal.

I am still looking for documentation, that there are any compatible, aftermarket hydraulic filters.

I have seen people claiming they have one, but no link showing it's actually compatible.

If it's out there, lets get it posted.
