DK 45 50 hour service

I am a little red faced with this one:p. I have torque wrenches that go to 600ft lbs. When I got to about 200lbs something told me this was not right. so I started looking elsewhere and found the 150lb spec. I didn't tear anything up! CJ

Where did you find the 150ft/lb spec for the rear wheels ?

My current model DS 4510 Service Manual also says 122ft/lb to 137ft/lb for front and 203 to 235ft/lb for rear. Can't imagine it being much different to the DK.

My torque wrench only goes to 100ft/lb so I have been using a cheater bar but am probably only getting up to 140ft lb on both front and rear as I didn't want to strip a bolt.
I was going to buy a larger torque wrench

Is 150ft/lb front and rear the actual spec?

NO, the 150 was the front and don't quote me on that, I do know it was in the high range. I torqued the rears at 225, that spec sounds the same. I will look tonight. Between the owners manual and the service manual you can find all kinds of different specs. The loader is even more confusing, you would need to pull a bolt out and measure it to find the spec, I will do that now because I am at my 50 hour mark. I am going to pull them and relocktight everything. Heck I found the loader bolts at anything from 10ft lbs to 80ft lbs, they were all over the place. I think I ended up at 60ft lbs. As far as a cheater bar you mean a extention for the torque wrench?? CJ

Kiotis come with Ansung loaders over here. The size and tensile code are imprinted on the head of the bolt

The loader frame to tractor bolts torque ratings for different rated bolts are provided in the loader manual and are certainly higher than 60ft/lb.

The loader pin bolts are probably about 60 and they are the ones that I found do loosen a bit.

A 2 ft bar with a 1/2' swivel drive , called a breaker bar. Is that the same as a cheater bar.

Wow 225ft lbs.. hum I wonder what is going to break first the bolts or the cheater bar:)

Interesting again, I checked my manual for front wheel bolt/nut torque,
Front Bolts 57-67 Foot Pounds Front Nuts 46-54 Foot Pounds.

Rear Bolts 166 Foot Pounds Rear Nuts 166 Foot Pounds.

My manual indicates in chart on page 7-4 a circled dot in the transmission fluid change at the 50 hour mark, Circled dot means "must be done after 50 hour mark". And again at the 400 hour mark, this time circle no dot. Also the same for front axle fluid.

Guys the rear specs call for 225 Newton Meters NOT Foot Pounds. It is 166 Foot Pounds for the rears.

DK-40 SE/Hst. Dealer said to NOT bother changing transmission hydraulic fluid at 50 hours, just filters. Says he's done it this way for 35 years with no problems. Kioti headquarters tech I spoke to directly about same issue said that is is recommended to change the fluid at 50 hours, and they could void the warranty if they found a problem related to not having done a 50 hour fluid change. I asked them directly because I was trying to make sense of the contradicting requirements between the owners manual and the service book. Interestingly, the Kioti customer service person told me the opposite from the tech and said there was a typo in the service intervals, but there was no need to change the fluid at 50 hours!?:confused2:
I decided to change the filters on my dealer's recommendation and now have over 400 hours and no problems. I will now probably change the fluid, just to have done it once, to see what if any evidence of metal is on the plugs and to know what I have in the transmission as a fluid while still under the warranty period.
Analogies of car transmissions to tractor transmissions don't really fly in my book. When was the last time, or for that matter the first time, ANYone hooked up a remote QD to a car or a 3ph?! Car systems are sealed and can therefore use fluid for huge amounts of miles now, whereas before synthetic fluids they could not do so without filter and fluid changes

On the anti-freeze issue: I would say to change the fluid and do a flush of the cooling system at 2 years or thereabout. Coolant does NOT improve with age and aluminum does get pitted from acids and particulate matter that can form from hard water mixed with the coolant when it is installed. It has a useful life, after which it does not flow as easily due to viscosity changes which can block cooling jackets and ports in the block/head, etc.
It is something I would choose not to ignore; and I speak from years of having serviced very expensive aluminum head and /or block foreign cars.

BTW, clarification of what the warranty means: changing a filter is NOT the same as changing a water pump. I defy Kioti or any other manufacturer to deny or void a warranty on the basis of a customer/owner changing their own fluids/filters and having documentation to prove having done so.
And Mercedes was sued years ago and LOST, regarding specifying the exclusive use of items such as their brand of brake pads etc.; which are like fluid filters, and air filters etc.- they are non-serviceable replacement parts that require change at specified intervals.

CM out.

Not my DS manual ! says 166 to 186 n/m front (122 to 137 ft/lb) & 274 to 318 n/m rear (202 to 234 ft /lb).

Seem to spend my life converting scales.

I posted this in another ongoing thread about the same issue but I'm adding it hear for what it's worth;

OK, after dealing with Kioti about my cab, I've made a few contacts there. I sent them an email this morning and recieved the following response. I'm not including any of their full names or email address.

> Ken,
> I undeerstand the confusion concerning the fifty hour service. It has been open for discussion before. KIOTI reccommends changing all fluids at a fifty hour initial break-in service. The reasoning for this is too remove any material that may become dislodged or created as gears mesh themselves together. While KIOTI has very close tolerances in machining, the meshing or wearing in of gear sets may produce very fine particles that may or may not be captured by the filter. It is always a good rule to exchange the initial fluid out after the first fifty hours to flush the system thus removing any particulates and replace the filters as well. As the old adage goes, " A ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Protection for your investment! Any further questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks!

> There has been a great deal of debate and confusion recently in the Kioti forum section of TractorbyNet.com amongst Kioti owners regarding the 50 hr service and I'm hoping to get a definitive answer from Kioti on how the service should be completed. Apparently, dealers are not clear on the proper protocol for the 50 hr service either as conflicting messages are being sent.

> The issue is whether there needs to be a full hydraulic oil flush at 50 hrs. The Kioti owners manual for both CK and DK models says it should be done, but the shop manual for the DK models (I'm not sure about the CK line) says not to change until 400 hrs and that only the filters need to be changed at 50hrs.

Ken, that seems to be pretty well defined answer, I am changing the fluid at 50 hours.. Now what the heck is with all these conflicting numbers for front and rear wheel bolt/nut torque specs? I have a new owners manual, and I can read pretty well. But it appears different things have been printed about these torque specs.

I think Kioti (Daedong) makes a great tractor, and for me, it was the best choice, regardless of price and color. Unfortunately, Kioti produces SH&TTY documentation. The contacts I've made at Kioti came about because of the errors in the sales materials for the Kioti Comfort Cab. In that case, the website and pdf sales materials have been changed as a result of me pushing it with them, and I would think that the same may happen if other discrepancies are brought forward as well. The comfort cab, torque settings and oil change requirements are only 3 examples of confusing, conflicting or simply incorrect information and it should be in Kioti's interest to correct it after it's identified to them.
