I too think everyone should choose what makes them happy.
My biggest gripe with all the HST vs gear debates is the gear people will say yes the HST does some stuff better but most HST people won't say yes the gear is better at anything such as pulling bigger loads better and climbing hills.
Why would you want to handicap the gear? Let it pull the hill In whatever gear it can without downshifting. It's not as simple as you make it if you start up the hill in range two on and HST and you run out of power you have to stop and down shift too.
I'm going back to being a spectator of this forum.
Have a good one guys.
I live in the hills and I can direction and speed multiple times when rotary cutting my trails. When I used to run my IH 424 it was unnerving to stop clutch it in change gears and make sure you didnt you didnt miss a gear. It was a 2 wheel drive which made it less capable but I kept chains on it year around. The HST never lets go of the tractor it only slows down and changes direction. Now if I were on flat ground and pulling a plow or disc all day then I would go with a geared machine. But for my situation HST is the safest for my work but maybe not the best for others. I only have flat places between the hills and not very big flat places at that. Tractor hey there all good, big, small, geared, HST, I like them all. I just cant afford them all.
