I think you want power!

Just get a Deere 4066R. $48k new and it has a loader!

Or how about a 2014 Kubota L6060 and loader with 180 hours for $39,900? Somebody else already took the depreciation hit from $52K new.

Lol well actually Eric, those are a bit overpriced for my budget! I think both are nice tractors, but my business budget just can't support that yet.

No ... My 3 current choices would be

1) just keeping mine (and trying to find a diesel mechanic with a PTO dyno that might be able to safely tune it up a tad),

2) get the 1652 IF I could tune it up to 60'ish HP...

3) get a Kioti nx6010, once you finish finding all the breakable items!

...

Plus, the loader on the JD is a bit weak & the tractor is light.

Also, Kubota de-rated this loader (which replaced the LA854) by a couple hundred pounds, and I still can't figure out why they would put a weaker loader on a tractor replacing the GL40 series tractors...

What is the Massey loader rated at? I used to know, but have forgotten.

You won't have issues with an NX series unless you wade out into the woods with it clearing. Then you want to add the guards I have on the bottom. Keep your Massey bucket as it is better than the Kioti bucket.

About 234 lbs less than yours (2527) , but to about 5.2" higher.

I like the NX tractors, but I found the Massey cab to be nicer and more comfortable for me (I know you found the opposite). I can't get over the thinness of some of the plastic inside the NX. But, the Nx6010 is a viable option (because specs are good as is price) if I can't get power up.

That extra height is an important thing. Another nice feature of the Masseys is that they put their steering ram behind the front axle. Kioti, unlike everybody else does supply a guard, but I found that those guards needed to be expanded and beefed up.

I like your improved guard. My 5240 has smaller factory guards but if I was doing a lot of woods work I would add something like you did.

Yeah, I agree that "behind the axle" is a more agreeable location for the steering cylinders. That, and the seemingly "beefier" front axle on the Massey were one of the things I noticed when shopping that I found appealing. Also, Kubota has a shield for their "ahead of the axle" steering cylinders (see picture). That's Ken's L3540. And, you can see on my LS that the front steering cylinders were not protected at all.

I can tell you from the nicks/scratches on my front axle currently, from brush & such that I've run into ... I definitely prefer, at least in apparent practical application, the cylinders behind the axle.

In the class, Massey had the heaviest driveline—although Deere's 4066R does use a planetary gear drive as opposed to everybody else using a bull drive. That said, the NX series uses a heavier front axle than the out-going DX series and the 3PT uses external, serviceable rams too, a nice thing to know if a guy thinks he will have his tractor for some time. Anyway, I found the need to protect that neat little rubber boot from underside damage as well. We'll see how well it all holds up next season.

Buying wise, I'd wait until summer. The dollar is hammering everybody into submission and these foreign tractors are going to get cheaper to buy if our dollar holds.

I believe that the Massey 1660/1759 also use a full planetary rear...

TSO, it sounds like the 2.2L and 3.0L engines are at 'opposite ends' of their tuning ranges. If so, there should be room to bump the 1652's hp as was done between the 1643 & 1648. A correlation between displacement, power, and fuel consumption will always exist, but that has much to do with how much power you're tapping for a given task. (The governor will increase fuel to maintain rpm ... we're used to that)

If these are common rail fueled, then flashing the EEPROM may be an alternative to turning up the pump. That said, I doubt that 1652 will disappear from the lot all that soon. A bit more research may prove your plan doable. (cam or its 'event timing' different?) btw: JD's 2.9L has been issued with a kitchen sink of hp ratings (upper-mid 40s to near 60) & turbo'd doesn't always distinguish between the higher & lower of them. (emissions, it seems)

So, I'm behind what you're thinking without an overriding reason not to keep looking for the 'right way' to mod. :) tog

TSO, you may as well come back to the LS family! Get a XU5065C. All the power you need/want, stonger loader (2527lbs v. 3060lbs) that lifts higher (113.5" v. 116"), steering rams behind the front axle, great bang for the buck and can be had with a power shuttle which is just as good as a hydro IMO. It's so fun to spend other people's money!
