For that much worth, I'd have a paved driveway....lol

Mostly you will have a long gravel road leading to the place. Not many paved roads out here except state hyw.

Edit: what do you know it is off a paved road.

Which has zero to do with having a paved driveway. I live on an unpaved road as well and if I could afford it, I'd have a paved driveway, kind of a no-brainer to me, besides, it increases your property value and most likely will raise your RE taxes as well.

Lots of positives living in California but the questions is at what point do the negatives exceed the positives?

I enjoy living in a climate where home heating and cooling is optional.

Only good things to say about my neighbors.

However the negatives keep growing…

I keep thinking once bottom is hit the only way forward is up.

I say this as my city’s recalled mayor is under Federal Indictment and State Police patrol the streets with Fire Stations being shuttered…

We have so much potential but remain mired.

It was bridge to far for me personally many years ago. After being stationed in the Carolinas and moving back to greater LA, I knew I had to get out. Lived in NC/SC for 18 years and learned something remote living. Now I'm in MO Ozarks by choice. Not for everyone, the fewer the better

My first billet was San Diego and I found it to be overly populated even then. The climate was nice but it wasn't for me, never was. Today, with their suffocating regulations, stupid high real estate costs and little to no potable water, not for me. In fact, never been back and have no desire to go back ever.

I see no positives about living there except the climate actually.

Attending public school there was always a influx of new kids from every corner of the country.

Many had dads that accepted jobs in California in Tech, Aerospace, Defense plus we had 2 families that transferred from Caterpillar Peoria to Caterpillar here and others to the big glass factory Owens Illinois plus to GM and Ford here.

Dad worked in auto sales and was always bringing home license plates from new transplants trading in their out of state cars.

As a child I remember vividly being at a neighbors home around Christmas and the big event would be calling parents back home hearing about the snow and ice and it would be 70 and blue sky here.

The Caterpillar and Owens Illinois families started chain migration and soon the brothers and sisters were all here.

Fast forward to the present and none of them here… the parents have all passed and the kids relocated… with many of the kids moving to Texas with jobs waiting.

Maybe it’s meant to be that way and the cycle is just playing out…

Among the Doctors I work with Michigan, New York and Pennsylvania round out the top place of origination…

The Asian and Spanish speaking are growing by leaps and bounds… at one time my city was more than 50% African American but now hovering around 20%

Having the experience of several neighbors 100+ and just as many 90+ has to say something positive and these were mentally sharp and active that called this neighborhood home for 60+ years…

Growing up the only time the heat was on was Christmas when the great aunts would visit… A/C was not a thing and just now gaining traction with the mandate to all electric heat pumps.

Reduced cost of living often cited as the top reason for relocating out of California…

Utilities including gas, electric, water plus fuel and don’t forget the bevy of taxes.

One saving grace is voter approval for new property taxes… and it boggles my mind but approval often happens.

I know a person that recently moved to CA and he told me his mortgage is for 50 years. He stated that is not uncommon there. Geez, he’s in his late forties. He got a promotion with his job and moved from Nashville to CA, he commutes 7 hours a day, his wife left him and went back TN and one of his sons now wants to be a girl. His raise has evaporated due to the cost of living there. It has turned to s$@# for him there.
