Extra leverage for pulling chain link fence posts(w/ concrete)

Ok, this wheel idea is finally starting to make sense...

Should the wheel be against the post the short way, like it rolled into the fence and stopped, and when you're pulling the wheel rolls, or should it be against it the long way, so when you pull the wheel will flip over on it's side?

At first the former made sense, but now thinking about it the latter makes more sense... like a little lever. As you pull the pressure goes onto the rim and basically you're pulling it over, while the chain going over the wheel pulls up on the post..

Now the question is, how low should your draw bar be? The lower the better? And what's the min size wheel one would use? I bet I could pick up a cheap one from a tire store.

I searched some more on the concept and figure the wheel has to roll not flip.

Now the question is do I try it with my bx or use a 4wd atv that has twice the hp but half the weight lol.

This could turn into the classic discussion of HP versus torque. My guess is that the 'bota would be much more capable than a 4 wheeler.

You can probably pull those posts are nearly idle on the tractor.

Roll, not flip...you're basically changing direction of pull on chain from horizontal to vertical, much like a pulley. BX...weight and lo range are your friends...

I'm wondering if using the pneumatic wheel/tire stores energy in compressing the air and makes this a potentially dangerous method, say if the chain slips off the tire. Any thoughts?

I have always seen it done with a RIM, not a tire on a rim. It holds itself upright and does not store energy that way.

I remember May 30, 1961 when Buffalo Gap got more than 250 mm of rain within one hour. That's over 10 inches. I was there...

The next time I'm using the A-frame I built, I'll try to get some pics. Likely next weekend. We're using it to haul alder stumps. The 3400 will pull most of them, but the stubborn ones come clear out in one pull with the frame.
