I listened.....I learned.....

Thanks! I just bought 140 treated posts from a left over job from the Houston Zoo. I figured if it is good for the Zoo it'll be good for me. 4" to 5" posts all 9 1/2" long for $4.25.

Great deal, eh... steal!

Find someone in your area that sells cedar posts. Those landscape timbers will not last long. Cedar will last longer than any treated posts in our climate.

Depends on were they got the cedar post,if you get them around here, not gonna be there very long, they dont have the heart as the cedars out west....

Ditto that...
Mountain cedars is what I have heard them called.

Not a fan of high tensile fence. I fenced out a conservation easement along a creek in 2001 with five high tensile wires (not electrified) with posts 70 feet or more apart and stabilizers every 8 feet. Had pros put it in, paid by government funds. Big mistake. They said it was the newest thing and would last. Cows found ways to get through in in less than a year. Calves pay it no mind. I went back and put in metal posts every 8 feet to stiffen it up. Now I'm adding a few strands of barbed wire.

Despite its cost, I favor regular woven wire. It lasts a generation. And I use locust posts cut off my own farm. Some put in by my father 50 years ago are still strong. Around here some folks are happy if someone comes in to cut some locust down... Cost is minimal that way.

That had nothing to due with it being HT fence, there's just no way the type fence you describe would hold cattle in. Smooth HT fence should always be juiced if cattle are around. Why no electric?

The neighbors have a HT fence with horses. They have to juice it or the horses will push it and cows would be much worse. You have to out smart them with electricty.

If you want a timber based fence that will last, you need to search out the local company that supplies the utility companies and buy directly from them. You will be throwing your money away with anything from Home Depot. Commercially treated poles have 100 times the rot prevention that consumer products have. You can't use these products near your home, but they are perfect for fence line.

This is an example of such a company

Exactly. My farm is subdivided into to small paddocks. Most of my interior fencing is only two HT wires. They are hot but after the cattle gain respect for the fence I can leave it off if needed.
