H frame, plus X supports for stability. (so trailer doesn't go all side ways and fall into creek)

Now the H frame idea is something I can work with. I guess if it lands in the creek, I'll just pull it out and try again. Oh, I'll have my kids running the video camera. This will be a you tube hit for sure.

This sounds like a " only one way to find out...here, hold my beer". Who has that as their signature line here?

I've seen this done on a small scale. I have no idea what size/rating of chain would be necessary though for a 40' semi trailer. My sketch is obviously not to scale.

This is how I did mine. Put one end in the bucket, chains to the other end and the top bucket supports, ratchet down good and tight and just floated it across. Used 3/8 grade 70 transport chain and northern tool ratchets.

not a bridge per say, but has been used numerous times. to create a "boom pole" to load sheet metal onto, for roofing a metal shed. (lifting the sheets up to the roof and pulling the sheets off)

Yes I will have an abutment on the other side. I was thinking about using one of those concrete barriers that they use during highway construction. Dig down a little then set that in place and put the trailer on top. Not ideal but it's 8 to 10 ft long and will help carry the weight.

Auburn Concrete, Maine Not quite what you're thinking of, but these are used quite often for bridges.

I haven't done this before, but how about starting by building a log and plank bridge that you can use to get your tractor back and forth to build/place concrete footers, and then roll the railcar bridge across that on log rollers, before you set it on the footers?

This is pretty much what I was talking about on page 1 with the poles in the center of the creek. Use a rough tape to get the base of the poles into creek center, pin the upright (pivot) with some welded on pipe under the trailer frame a few feet back from the end. (EDIT IN the amount of overhang is how much will land on the other side of the bank if the base of the poles are in the center of the creek and hooked up at the near edge of the creek.) then use pipe (your in drill pipe country) as the uprights, weld on some plates so ends dont sink into the bottom of creek. Having a Horz Pipe welded 6" or so up from the bottom will also put a good base on the X braced pivot assy. heck when it is across knock off the pipe welds at the far end then swing the pipe X brace up and re-weld it to the center of the bridge on some Jack Plates & Threaded Rod. ';) That way you can keep support on center of bridge for a good number of years as the center brace slowly sinks keep jacking center up...
