Don't want to argue,Tom, but by less government we mean federal regulation. Many of us are happy to pay taxes for a formidable police force. don-ohio ^)

Federal money flows down to local governments all the time. I am not one to expect more cops or to pay more "general fund" taxes. I do however, vote for major infrastructure things, I like to know what the return on the money is. Particularly public-private projects.

It's a shame idiots like this aren't arrested or better yet....shot themselves. Even if caught....what do they get...slap on the wrist? The problem isn't the guns.....it really is the idiots who are irresponsible and the laws we don't enforce. Start punishing criminals.....the gun problem will be solved.:2cents:

yep, hassle and insufficient funds make LEO response to dogs attacking livestock impractical. Livestock owner does responsible thing notifying dog owners, one takes responsible action, one does not yet apparently retaliates when livestock owner protects his own property/horse. Over time, from local to national level, as government funds are reduced and sequester (I predict) happens, we will all increasingly feel personally the unpleasant effect in our daily lives.

Smaller govt is kinda like the difference between a full service gas station and a quick stop. In the old days every fill up also got tires checked, oil checked, radiator fluid checked, windshield washed. Now, the car owner has to get their own hands dirty. Few do. Thus tires blow out causing wrecks. Oil and radiator problems are not discovered until major expensive damage is done.

You get what you pay for, but cause and effect is not always immediate.

And, yes, let's rant against govt waste and corruption. I don't like it either. But I don't think waste/corruption will be resolved by ill considered budget changes.

The truth is the country is not in the mood to pay for (and receive) quick, responsive police coverage. Everywhere people want less government, less taxes. We all need remember that. You get what you pay for.

If I got what I paid for I would be happy. Unfortunately, my tax dollars went to some crackhead to get his methadone for the day instead.

They're probably on a coffee break or something. There was a time when I'd call the police if shots were fired late at night, but now I don't bother because I know that nothing will be done. Sad, but true.

When you hear shooting at night, don't call the cops, call Fish and Game. They love to catch poachers and when they do, their guns, vehicles, everything used in the poaching is confiscated. Lots more satisfying than a simple arrest by regular police.
