JD 2320
Recently brought the JD 2320 TLB from my family "camp" to my home. I borrowed a buddies 20 foot 12K trailer, a little overkill I know, but what can you do. Of course after spending a couple hours of checking it over, repairing wires etc it may be time to invest in my own trailer. I don't expect to be moving the tractor around much, and the better half feels a dump trailer would have more use. Mulch, top soil, etc, for her gardening / landscaping. Does anyone use a dump trialer to move thier SCUT around. I need to do some more measuring but with the 46 bh turned in tight, it seems that it may just fit in a 14 foot dump. I have been told that I could set the bucket on the top of the front etc to gain some room. I could even detach the bucket and put that in the truck bed.

I have seen people use dump trailers to haul their tractor. I wanted to do this, but money is too tight right now. I think your biggest concern would be enough clearance with your backhoe and trailer ramps. JC

I have a 12' dump trailer that I use to haul my 3520 around in. It fits all the way in, even the bucket (have to roll it under though). However, it will not fit with anything attached to the rear, as the iMatch literally touches the back doors. I would love to also have a flat bed trailer, but I get so much use out of the dump trailer, that I wouldn't consider anything else for my primary trailer. I could go on all day listing things I have used it for, but the obvious ones are hauling barkdust, rock, hay, tractor, furniture, etc.

For the rock and barkdust type hauling, the dump feature is indispensable, as you can't unload a trailer that big with a FEL, unless you want to climb up in there and shovel in to the bucket or something.

Just my $.02

Remember you can go custom. We have several trailers in places in Houston that will build totally custom. And the cost is about the same as a trailer in the yard. Usually just a few minor mods.

I have a 6 ton Bri mar dump trailer and it works great. I can put my Kubota 4310 with loader in it or my IHI 3 ton excavator. Ive hauler probably 250 ton of sand. stone mulch wood shavings also. I dont think I would want only a equipment trailer. Also its not real easy to unload a equipment trailer with a fel. V

I think I'd go with a 3/4 ton pick up with a dump bed and a tilt bed trailer for the best of both worlds.
YA got to pull the trailer with something so it might as well be a dump bed pick up truck.

Kernal I have a JD 790 with bucket and bh and I haul it in a 16' dump trailer and it just fits. By being creative with the bucket and bh I would have more room. The thing I don't like about the dump is that the backhoe drags on the ground if I don't raise the dump. This is not good on a frosty day in Maine.

Is your trailer a deck over or low profile dump. I have found a used PJ dump trailer, 14' low profile. I know there are some issues with the lower deck models dumping.

We have built some of these, but putting the 3 stage tipping cylinder safely under the bed, is allways a pain when the dumpbin sits inbetween the wheels.
Some people like it for stability (low CoG) but if i'd build one for myself, (not for a customer) it'd be a deck-over, just to give the tipping cylinder enough ground clearance.

Some work with front mounted telescopic cylinders, but those are more costly and put more stress on the frame when tipping: An under floor, 3 stage cylinder mounted in the middle of the bed, will put its pressure close to the axles, so giving the least frame bend stress.

How do you secure,i.e., tie down your tractor in a dump bed?

My Bri Mar has rings in the bed. The thing about a dump bed P/U truck is you really cant haul very muchand with my super duty when I haul something with the dump trailer and am done with it I unhook the trailer and I have a sharp looking truck to drive. V

1*But with a dump bed pick up and a tilt bed trailer you don't have to fool around with hooking up a trailer jockeying 2 vehicles down the road just to pick up a couple a tons of slag gravel sand dirt etc then un hooking a trailer and putting it away when you get done.
2*Ya don't have to un hook a trailer from a dump bed pick up to make it look good. Then too with a tilt bed trailer you don't have to wrestle around with gut busting ramps.

Well with a dump bed pickup you can haul lets say its a 1 ton pickup 1 load equals 1 ton.... now with a dump trailer, mine is a 6 ton... 1 load equals 6 ton thats 6 loads with your pickup dump and 1 with my trailer and with diesel at 5$ gallon and gas at $4.25 per gallon if you have to haul any distance add up the cost of fuel . Oh and now the DOT works sat and sundays in NY and they are targeting pickups that are overloaded maybe you dont get an overload ticket which can cost $200 to $300 . Also if you have to make 6 trips lets say 10 miles each trip at 45 min per load look at the time you have invested, not exactly what I want to do on my day off !!! Plus its easier to disable your trailer so that when a neighbor or friend wants to borrow itto get something than it is to disable your dump pick up that you just came back from the groery store with groceries !!!!!!! Just my opinion. V

1*Sounds light to me since I bought a new Ford 3/4 ton pickup back in 71 that would haul 2 ton or so easily.
I once hauled 6000 pounds with it and it handled it pretty well but was more than I cared to see on it so there after I tried to keep it between 4000 and 4500 pounds which it handled nicely. I think you're forgetting about the tilt bed trailer I mentioned but any way why bother with it to run after a ton or two of something when the pick up is all you need for the trip?
2*Yeah but I didn't need to pay $9.00 per ton for 6 tons when I only needed 2 ton of the $9.00 a ton material. That's a 36 dollar savings right there.
3*Even at those fuel prices I could have hauled what I need in one trip for way less than the $85 it cost me to hire out a dump truck to haul it for me. The 85 bucks did not include the material either.
4*Around here they concentrate on the big trucks and the commercial trucks rather than the private owned vehicles so that's not a problem here.
5*If I owned a pick up with a dump bed I could have made one trip and gotten what I needed an been done with it.
As it happened it was 3 days before I was able to acquire a truck to make the haul. Had I had the pick up I could have went and got the stuff and completed the entire project within those 3 days that I spent waiting on a truck.
Waiting 3 days to get the stuff isn't exactly how I wanted to spend 3 days.
Also I could have better spotted where I wanted the stuff dumped with the dump pick ups smaller size and better maneuverability compared to the truck trailer combo and the big bulky dump truck.
6*No is a great disabler.

Mr Brown is like the pot calling the kettle black. Why have seven tractors when you do the job with one. JC

   / JD 2320 in a dump trailer #17
Amen to that Rooltide !!!!!!!!!!If Brown already has the answer why did he bring up the question ??????????? V

   / JD 2320 in a dump trailer #18
Brown it seems like you dont need a trailer you have no more room on your acreage to park anymore tractors or attachments. V
