Based on your pic of the shooting berm, with your approach ramp in the rear of the frame that supports the berm, what about having a few loads of dirt delivered and unloaded behind the supporting frame and thereby increasing the height of the approach ramp? Actually, I would favor spending the money on a tractor with a FEL that fits your needs, but you might price out that alternative.

FWIW, about a year ago we traded in a L3800 on a MX5800. The L3800 was a great tractor. The main factor that led us to make the change was the FEL capacity--just lifting capacity, not lift height for our applications.

That's an option, but with the gradual incline I have I feel extremely uncomfortable on it - I don't trust it's compacted enough to not give out under a front tire or something. I like the steel ramps idea best....nice solid thing to climb to get the extra height. Maybe I should park my trailer and climb up on it? :) That would get me the 20" with L3901 & LA525 loader.....not like I have to do this every day.

Since you're in my neighborhood...what Kubota dealer did you use?

Brooks in Monroe. I am very happy with them. Family owned business. If they are close enough to you, call Derek Brooks 704-233-4242) and tell him Bob Tucker recommended that you call him.

$4k more to step up to an L4701 w/ LA765 loader and that only leaves me ~15" of height to overcome which should be doable. But the $4k probably isn't the real # going up a frame size....probably way too much for my 5' box blade, bush hog so would need to replace those too being more $. Maybe not 'have to' but if you have the tractor capacity for much larger stuff why toil with (2 sizes?) smaller?

Besides the larger engine, larger frame, a little more weight, and larger FEL, does L4701 come standard with anything else that L3901 wouldn't have?

Also - for reference - anyone trying to decide among L3301, L3901, & L4701, un-negotiated quotes with one dealer for industrial tires, HST, SSQA bucket with current Kub promotions & 0% finance is $20,5/$22,3/$26,3. Something about buying another implement (loader counts as 1) knocks some more off. Those aren't OTD #s - no insurance, tax, dealer fee, etc. Just a random reference point from here in NC. That's @ 60 months....longer terms still 0% but $600 more. I really don't understand the finance process....:)

Just purchased an MX5800HST & bought out of state (4.25 hrs. away) b/c it was $2,700 cheaper than my local dealer (no out of state taxes) & still a lot cheaper than a Kubota dealer that's 2 hrs. away - enough savings & then some to make the drive... Get an OTD price from all the stores so you can compare apples to apples & don't have any surprises.

Yes the loader counts as 1 implement & you can get another to take advantage of the $1,000 savings promo. Prob. the cheapest other implement would be the quick hitch if you don't need anything. The KTAC? insurance I got is through Kubota & is ~$40/month rolled into my 60 payments. It's full coverage on the tractor for 5 years, covers most everything for full replacement value of the tractor.

That reads like a solution I would do with the LS you have! While searching for a bargain on a used bigger tractor.

But I do have problems seeing how one could park a trailer to enable efficient dumping.

Dunno....was just a random thought but worth exploring. It's a 16' or 17' landscaper type trailer with the expanded mesh gate on back and low side rails all around. Guess I could put some weight on back, lower front jack all the way, then use my bucket with teeth to sort of push it into place with the trailer doing a little of a "wheelie" to keep the tongue off the ground. Jack stands at the corners once in place. Would be a stable high platform to climb. I had the gate/ramp reinforced before buying the tractor supposedly to handle 5k lbs (which I don't believe, but is more than sufficient for my light machine with a full bucket and ballast.). Since my goal is to put the front lip of bucket right at the back of the berm wall I think I can reach over the tongue and do that.

"Reach at Maximum Height (in): 22". That's from loader spec on LS website. 22" reach from where? does that include the length of bucket too? Guess I need to just try it and see. Tongue is probably a good 36" but it seems with front tires at the rail on trailer I should be able to reach.

Would be a lot of time getting trailer in place and the repositioning it a few times at each berm. So maybe not a real efficient way to get it done, but in theory a safe way. Don't know if that's enough height for my LS with 65" dump clearance. Never measured but would guess the trailer floor is about 20" above ground level. No harm in trying - if it doesn't work or doesn't feel safe, no worse off than I am right now. :)

It may not give you enough reach but what about a 4in1 bucket? If the loader lifts high enough then you wouldn't really have to worry about dump clearance.

Went to Kubota dealer @ lunch today & Kioti dealer after work. After kicking the tires & running both....tough choice. Going to start a new thread in Kioti forum for pros/cons but overall was impressed with the Kioti a little more.

Here is an idea, as long as you have a loader that will clear height wise you could always get a 4 in 1 bucket to solve the dump angle or dump clearance problem.

Kioti & the Koreans aren't quite as polished, but you can get more weight for your buck on a good machine. Weight is what makes a tractor work, hp just defines how fast it will do it. Sounds like you are more worried about lift (weight & height) than other stuff, which is perfectly valid.
