I am looking for about 20 HP 4x4 tractor and thought i would like a kubota. In the tractor house there must be 100 units for sale, but a lot say overhauled. whats with that?? also thinking about yanmar. any other brands i should be looking at thanks Lloyd from minnesota

Overhauled to me means rebuilt. Could also be grey market, which I would stay away from. I would think you could get a used BX with some hours for the money you are talking about.

BX would be a subcompact tractor made by Kubota, of which they have made several models over the years. To get one in your budget range, you will probably have to get one with a few hundred hours on it, but they have proven to be pretty durable.

That's a good price range to be looking in.

as you narrow down your choices, find out if the machine you are looking at has good parts support. sometimes things like front end parts become scarce on some models.

keep us posted.

I would be willing to bet "rebuilt or reconditioned" refer to a grey market tractor. That means the tractor was imported as used to be resold in the states. Gray market tractors are not supported by US Kubota dealers and they do not have parts for them. If you take a look on Kubota Tractor Corporation Web Site under products they explain about and list gray market Kubota models.

If you like Kubotas, look for a 7-10 year old B-series tractor. A 2001 B7000HST would fall in your price range (no FEL).

My first tractor was a new 2005 Kubota B7510HST (21 hp engine, 17 hp pto, 4WD, power steering, hydrostatic transmission) with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket, about 800 lb lift capability). Excellent machine.

$5-7k can get you a nice B-series with a loader if you are patient, and wait for the right deal.

Some of the recent deals in my area (I'm near Harrisburg, PA, and was looking in a 250mi. radius) that I missed, or passed on while shopping for an upgrade over the last few months:

Ebay:
B1750 w/ Kubota 1640 FEL, 1300 hrs, $5300
B2150 w/ Bush Hog loader, 412 hrs, $6200 -- was bummed that I missed this

Craigslist:
B2400 w/ Kubota LA351 FEL, back blade, and 14' trailer, $8k -- was also bummed that I missed this one
Various BX models w/ FEL and various implements have been listed for $6800-$11,000

What I ended up buying:
'05 B7610 w/ 124 hrs, with (Kubota) LA352 FEL, Woods PHD & 9" auger, and King Cutter XB-series 5' landscape rake, $7,500

If you're going to be doing a lot of FEL work, you'll want a hydrostatic transmission, and power steering (which all the above have, that was a requirement for me).
