Yeah that nasty little ball in the filler neck of your car... I have had zero success at getting a siphon hose down the neck of a modern automobile, so it is fairly effective. A bad thing when you want to siphon your own gas. A good thing when some little criminal is trying to siphon YOUR gas.:laughing:

Some of my serious "prepper" friends have tapped in valves underneath the vehicle.

I have two motorcycles in the shed so I top them off for the winter. Bikes still have wide open fill ports so it's easy to get. We also use five gallon steel "Safety Cans" as supposedly plastic cans will allow more volatile components to escape. But our "extra' cans are plastic.

Many years ago I saw a presentation on automotive gas tanks by an auto industry engineer. He said that all of his fellow employees were surprised to discover that steel tanks lost more volatiles than plastic ones. It turned out that the seams were not as well sealed as most people thought.

Now this may have been corrected in there intervening time, but after seeing this talk from someone who had done the experimental work and really knew, I have preferred plastic containers. At least I know they will not corrode.

When I bought my 2012 Ford F150 I was told it did not have a replaceable fuel filter. The filter was where the fuel is filled and the fuel goes through a spinning type of filter before it enters the tank. I don't have a gas cap either. I guess I don't need it because of the built in, inline fuel filter that is now part of the tank. I think it would be impossible to siphon fuel with one of those types of fuel filters in there.

void777. You didn't stick around and loot Wally World? That was a real lesson in how things go in real life. And that was a very local event. I can't even imagine a wide spread event. I heard that there were rogue cops holding up in a hotel, partying with a stolen generator, demanding that others get lost!

Our neighbor has a newer Ford Focus. He wanted to put some fuel from a plastic gas can into it, but he couldn't figure out how since it doesn't have a gas cap. He finally figured out there is a funnel included with the car in the spare tire area that you shove into the filler and it opens the fuel filler in case you need to do just that.

My F150 came with a funnel to use with a gas can.

It doesn't have a gas cap, just a door.

Spent the day moving fuel from 55gal drum storage to my large tanks (300gal gas, 275gal diesel), and refilling from the local farm co-op with fresh fuel. The oldest gasoline was from Dec/2012, and it was $3.23 when it went in the drum, refilled today with $1.84. I use PRI-G in my gasoline, and it does fine.

Now both my big tanks are full, got 10-55gal drums of diesel and 5 of gasoline, and 2 of kerosene in storage.

I have stepped up my self sufficiency in reloading materials, and am now just about ready to get into casting lead. By this time next month maybee I'll be getting a lead furnace and the rest of my molds. have a few pieces in already.

Did that a number of years ago. Next you'll be researching Harbor Freight Powder coating or Hi-Tek epoxy to encapsulate the bullets to prevent leading etc.
