looking at used JD 3720 or 5045E tractor

/ looking at used JD 3720 or 5045E tractor #41
I had a 3520 and upgraded to a JD4320. The JD3520 did not have enough power for what I wanted to do on my ten acres and they had to narrow of a wheelbase which made it very easy to roll over but other than that it ran very good with no issues other than one of the front axle seals leaked.

I see used John Deere 3720 tractors come and go. If you have one, what do you think of it? What kind of hours might be a problem? View attachment 930239
I bought mine with 2400+ hours, it's now over 2500 in 8 months. Had the right front axle seal replaced and installed a vented dipstick, solved the problem. Loaded the rear tires adding 800# m/l and installed third function front and rear. This thing works its ass off! I wouldn't worry about hours as long as it's not blowing smoke and most issues are reasonably repaired. Good luck...

I’m just about to trade a 2016 3039R HST for a new one. The dealer doesn’t care if I sell it before my new one is ready for delivery.
$29k with 950 hours, 385A backhoe, 18”HD bucket, H165 loader, 61”HD b let and bolt-on cutting edge & R4 tires.
You are a long, long ways away from us..

Not saying anything about quality or design of JD - but the company has decided to move their production to Mexico so they can make an even bigger profit that their current record breaking $23.5B. They can hire production line workers for about $5k per year and engineers etc for a fraction of US wages. Plus they don’t have to pay benefits and taxes here. So all in all a great American company. Personally I’ll never buy a JD product now.

So when they switched some manufacturering to Japan years ago, that was ok? What about when they did the same to India? Most large manufacturers have shuffled parts, or whole machine sourcing around.

I am not sure what you are planning to do with the tractor but there is a big difference between the 2 you are looking at.

The smaller tractor will be more manuvarable, easier to haul, and easier to store. It has the Yanmar engine and is pre-emissions. My cousin has a 3720 he uses on 18 acres and says it does everything he needs it too and has been happy with it.

I did not see a loader on the bigger tractor. I personnally would not buy without a loader. This tractor will defintely pull more, lift more and get more work done. Not sure if it has the power reverser/shuttle shift or not (this would be a big one for me).

From the posts I see you create, you are doing a lot of trail clearing. I would think the smaller tractor would be better for that. Just eaisier to move around and use. Implements will be cheaper as well.

However, if I were looking at those tractors I would be looking at the 5045e or bigger HP 5 series with loader. You wont have any issues going over stuff and the bigger tires will add in the cushing going over rough ground. Also, implements will be bigger and more expensiove. Then you need to think about how you are going to be hauling these machines as well. Trailers and trucks are expensive if you dont already have the gear for it.

There are loaders available. Dealerships must be full of used machines because the sales people are trying real hard.

Yeah

Yeah and they probably really want to move that 5045e. It is the base model in that series and may be harder to sell?? Not really sure about that just a guess.

I would say you would get e better deal on the 5045e over the 3720. The 3700 and 4700 series are selling at high prices. At least they where when I was looking in the beginning of the year.

When I bought my Massey 2860m, I was looking hard at a used 5065e. I really like that tractor and VERY close to buying it. I liked the way it handled and the power it had. It had the remote up front already and came with 4in1 bucket and grapple bucket. I still wonder if I should have gotten it. LOL
