In other words it is just a revenue generator and public highway safety be dammed.

Hey, with low range I bet you can find an example of some rocket scientist bragging about how his 6 banger gas pickup can tow 20k.
roger that one!Amen. And the sooner we can get these "supertruckers" with their diesel pickups pulling 15K or more off the road, the better.![]()
Something I see all the time now on the NYState Thruway (I-90) here is 1 ton dually PU's pulling "wedge" gooseneck 3-car haulers. Several times I've seen 3 full sized PU's or cargo vans as the load. Lets see, that's 15K++ for the load plus maybe 4-5k for the trailer. Just the one PU/van over the gooseneck has got to be overloading the bed limit of the 1 ton?? On an interstate highway I think they're going farther than "just going around the corner". How the heck are these guys getting away with it?
As far as safety my first thought is how do you stop that load? Heavy duty trucks/trailers have air brakes, but F350/450/550's don't. Pulling/stopping my 7k trailer behind my 1/2ton Dodge is enough exitement for me but at least it's legal.
I am curious what your Pete is rated at. They are typically only 33k here.
our pete and sterling rollbacks are regestered to 53k.
My single axle IH is registered at 56,000 GCWR.
Out here they shape golf courses with a 10K lb. CAT 286 with a dozer blade.
Maybe you don't need such a heavy tractor?
