New Digital Camera ???

IMHO, Image quality is way more important than either pixels or speed of the optics. Try some different cameras and choose based on that. I have bought and returned several cameras that were disappointing in terms of image quality. If I learned anything its that specs don't make quality images. Optics and good focus and exposure firmware do.

Now, if you can get more pixels or faster lenses with the same image quality, for the same money, thats the way to go.

It looks like a replacement for the S1 IS is not coming out this month. The PMA show is getting ready to start, and Canon has released their full-line Spring 2005 brochure.

The big news is a replacement/upgrade to the Digital Rebel. The new E350 has fantastic specs - smaller, faster, 8.0MP, etc. Here's a DPR preview.

Think you can get them to buy one for me? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif that is a very nice camera, way out of my price range for what i do with it. but my olympus C750 4 mp with 10x optical zoom works well altough the shutter lag time could be better.

Maybe 5MP (4 isn't much of a jump over 3.2) and 12x zoom and an autofocus assist lamp for low light pictures. If they do come out with something, the S1 might be further discounted. It was $500 when it came out last February, and the "S2" will probably be in that neighborhood - if there is an "S2". </font>

I was also looking at The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z5 , also has 12x zoom, runs off AA batteries, Anti-Shake System. Street price of about $350

Nice camera. The only problems I have are that the higher megapixels are a waste of you try to send pix via email or on slow bandwidth; anything slower then broadband, good luck.
