rswyan-

Looks just super!!!

I'm sure that you are very excited to have such a nice big shop.

If I see what I think I'm seeing, I like the way they attached your roof trusses to the posts. Did they simply put the truss in the middle of the 2x6 "sandwich" that they had built up for the posts where it rests on top of the middle 2x6? I've seen that done before and to me, it looks like a nice strong way to secure it, with plenty of bearing area for the truss.

I was wondering - how did they attach the girts to the top of the trusses? Did they use any kind of bracket, or just toenail them in?

Again, it just looks great. I'm sure that you are looking forward to getting your slab poured, elec service connected, and by the looks of it, a nice wood burning stove would really be great!

Best,

Mark

phantom,

Thanks .... yes, I'm definitely excited .... one of the ongoing problems I have had for many years is never enough storage space ... hopefully this will put me ahead of the game .... at least for a little while. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yep .... that's exactly how they did it, more or less. The poles come from the factory with the center 2" x 6" shorter than the outer two. Once the poles are set, they take a measurement and cut a spacer/riser block out of a PT 2" x 6" to get the correct height for each end of each truss. These spacers are inserted into the pole and nailed to the outer two plys.

The truses are then set in placed and they drill a pair of holes thru the pole and truss and bolt them together with a pair of 1/2" x 12" stainless steel bolts.

No brackets - they use large (maybe 7" long) ringshank nails driven thru the top of the purlins into the trusses. The purlins are overlapped 2' at each joint and nailed together from the sides.

Thanks.

Yup /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I have a woodburning add-on furnace sitting in the garage I think I might end up throwing out in the barn. The concrete will have to wait until spring. The electric I can hook up about anytime - I have all the stuff - provided the ground isn't too frozen to finish the trench.

I'm having some difficulty get motivated to get out there and do anything though - the temps are about 10° or so lower than normal here right now ... so it's a little chilly. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Crash... Yea I guess I deserve that. But you need to tell the part about how the door frame moved in to the tractor just as I was coming through it....If I didn't know better it would seem as though you don't believe that story.. You know I don't think the wife bought it either. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Randy,

You know the fist thing I did was to wrap the perimeter with one more roe of skirt boards before I back-filled. It sure made things easier and I didn't have to get dirt up against the metal.

So on a scale what do you think of Cleary so far??. also did you get the bird block for the overhangs? I leave my doors open quite a bit for the animals so the birds get in anyway!

I'm pretty much planning on doing a concrete slab. The bottom of the skirt board is generally 6" or more above grade currently. I'm going to fill in with a few more inches of washed #57 and then the slab will come halfway up the skirt board.

I'm pretty happy. The guys all worked pretty hard in some not so great conditions and they appear to have done a good job. The foreman put in for a repair order before they had even finished for two new sheets of steel for the north endwall that got messed up when they were originally delivered. It's really a cosmetic thing more than anything. Should have those installed by December 30th or so.

The regional manager has been out a couple of times and will be stopping by tomorrow to scope it out (and pick up the final payment /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) There's are a couple of minor things that I'll ask him about then. Of course, the more you look the more you'll probably find, but so far nothing major, or of any real consequence.

I think they did a good job. Fred Zibbel, the foreman, seemed to have a good bit of interest in making sure it was done right.

I don't know exactly what that is - the overhangs all have aluminim soffit, which is like a screen to allow ventilation - from the looks of it, I don't see anywhere where birds would be able to get in or nest.

And before too very long the stuff just starts piling up. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The B2910 gives a point of reference for scale.

Floor is a little icy - I wanted to throw the tailings from the augered holes out underneath the skirtboard so I wouldn't spill out so much gravel from the perimeter (trying to seal it somewhat to keep snow from blowing in in.) They were frozen ..... so I used this as my "defroster.
