Ordered a 5045E

Ya, well, I had a 2 wheel drive tractor till just trading it in for the new 5045E. Hoping it is worth the trade difference but getting a loader too will be a benefit. Just been looking around the net now for a busing about .742x 1.050x2. Doubt it has to be exact but imagine the 2 inches can't vary much but I could use a few washers instead.

You could get a piece of steel pipe, cut and paint it. Probably cheaper than the washers and would end up looking better

Yep, that has crossed my mind as well. I mentioned something to a buddy of mine who is a big farmer and very good with steel. He told me not to buy anything as he has the stock to make whatever bushings I need. Nice to have good friends! I just didn't want to bother him with it! Thanks for the help!

Well, good news, I think. I found some bushings at a local farm store that are almost exactly the same size as the needed bushings for allot less money. They are 2 inches long, 3/4 inch inside and 1 inch outside diameter. .742 is very very close to 3/4 inch and the 1.050 is very close to 1. inch so I think they will work fine. They were bushings for top links or something to increase diameter from 3/4 to 1. Anyway at 1.00 a piece, I can afford them allot easier than the 16.00 or more dollars per each Deere wants!
Couldn't find the screw so went ahead and ordered them from Deere. They are only about 2.50 per and the washers I picked up at Deere today too. Should go together fine now. Thanks for all the help. Now, If I could just find a grill guard that fits on the hood guard cheap! About the cheapest I have seen is around 125.00.

I built the grill guard pictured here for the cost of some 3/4" angle, welding wire, electricity, paint, and my time...the steel grate is some that I picked up at work (quarry). I bet if you asked nicely at a quarry/sand & gravel operation nearby to you, they would give you a piece of it that they have laying around. We use the stuff for everything from pulley/belt guards to catwalks. Every place we have has a scrap pile with a few decent pieces kicking around. I didn't like the coverage of the Deere guard, as it didn't cover the lower grill. Seemed pretty obvious to me that that was where the offending materials would come from 9/10 times. That's what prompted me to make my own...One word of advice, not sure if it's been covered yet so I'm sorry if it has, the grill guard will block the headlights a great deal, and I found it necessary to attach a couple flood lights to the ROPS to light up the night a little. Not sure how the picture of the sleeping kiddo got on there or how to remove it, but enjoy that one anyway...I do;-)

Hey I found it.
HOOD GUARD (5045D, 5055D, 5065E AND 5075E SERIES TRACTORS)
Cart key PART NO. PART NAME QTY SERIAL NO. REMARKS
1 AW34930 Guard 1
2 28H3481 Bushing 6 0.742" X 1.050" X 2"
3 19H2641 Cap Screw 6 5/8" X 3-1/4"
4 24M7053 Washer 6 17 X 30 X 3 mm
OK, before I get real excited and order the grill guard to fit onto this hood guard, I would like to make sure this is the correct hood guard. I think it is but I am not 100% positive. The reason I am not is because the above says it is the Hood Guard for (5045D, 5055D, 5065E and 5075E series tractors)! It doesn't say anything about a 5045E!! I am pretty confident it is the right one as there isn't much difference between the 5045D and the 5045E but there is a difference, the D is 2 wheel drive and the E is 4 wheel! Hopefully I am worried about nothing but would like to have some reassurance. Thanks again!!

Thanks so much!! Man, you did a great job on that grill guard!! I have a friend who has the materials to make something similar, I just hate to bother him with it. I sure understand what you are saying though about the Deere guard not coming down far enough to protect everything like it should. What I though about doing is getting the Deere guard and then adding a little tray to the bottom by building one that would fit into those 4 bolt holes on the front. That would give a little more protection there and also add a place to store a log chain.

Thank you for the compliment!!! I always follow Red Green's motto: ''If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.'' From what I could see, the Deere guard only covers to where the hood guard begins to bend past vertical...maybe they have changed since I bought mine, but I doubt it. Wierd that they overlooked it. I would prefer to have the mesh, as it would at least allow some light to get through to the ground if you're working around the front of the tractor, but you could simulate that with a piece of cardboard beforehand to be sure...Good Luck!!!

Great pic of the sleeping kid. They are always at their best when you have them worn out and taking a nap so you can rest too.
I've had that problem of the grill fussing the lights. I just took mine off for the winter snow plowing season and haven't put it back on. With the loader bucket on and held low it doesn't amount to much anyway as you should refrain from running into brush piles far enough for the butts to get to the grill.

As far as I can see all the 50xxx tractors today are built on the same frame with the difference being in the injector pump and turbo charger. They put on larger tires on the up horsepower versions to allow the extra power to get transmitted to the ground but all the loaders and other attachments are interchangeable. There are some differences in rear hitch in the 5075s and up but nothing I know of around the front nose.
