Thanks so much!!! Very thoughtful of you!
The threads, I guess, might be the other question or would all English grade 5's be cut with the same threads? At least I know they are a 5/8ths wide. That will tell me what size washer or spacer I need.
Thanks again!
They are the normal coarse bolt thread not the finer machine thread. Funny that those front holes in the frame are drilled and tapped English. Those further back where the loader frame is mounted on are metric. The parts catalog clearly shows English sized bolts for mounting on a front weight rack but I haven't found a parts list for the hood guard as of yet .

Ya, I have looked all over the net for a parts list for the hood guard without much luck! Interesting they would have metric for the frame mount and standard on the front. Now my question is relative to the bolt size again. 3 and 1/8th must be specific for Deere and I can't find a 3 and 1/8th anywhere. Did you measure from just under the top of the bolt or to the top of the bolt head? Sorry for my ignorance but sure thankful for your help! Also wondered about where to mount the guard and use the loader. I am guessing, in looking at the guard, it could be placed a little further back or a little more foreward depending on whether or not you are using a loader?? Not sure.

You just bolt it on. no adjustment. The loader clears it fine. it's for bumping up against the tire on the spreader your loading while your eyes are on the bucket clearing the edge. saves the battery and the radiator. :)

Well, that is very helpful!!! Thanks so much!! So It is actually a 3 and 1/4 inch long 5/8 bolt then, it appears. I know they aren't always easy to measure. Washer may have been on when it got measured before. 3 and 1/4 will be lots easier to find than a 3 and 1/8th!

I am not totally following you here! I know you just bolt it on but it looks like you could bolt it on a little further forward or a little further back as there are 4 bolt holes on the bottom and 2 at the top that require 3 bolts. Maybe the extra holes are to fit a different model tractor. I don't know!

Just guessing here now but any extra holes are probably for some other accessory. The three you want to use each side line up the hood guard just a bit back from the line of the front tires so the tires will bumper into a flat wall before the hood guard will, at least while the tires are new.

I see what you are saying. I think they make the same guard for both the E and D tractors. Would think the E tractors front tires would stick out much further than the D's.

My manual doesn't give outside diameter for the various tires for the front end. A 16 inch 2WD front tire might have a longer side wall then a 4wd 24 inch tire so the outside diameters can't be determined from the rim diameter. Again I'm guessing that a 2WD tires are just a bit smaller out to out then the 4wd ones.
Who would want a 2wd tractor anyway considering the price difference and the capability difference?
