Overwidth trailers

I think it would be a good idea to get that license tag off the fender, and mount it properly, on the rear of the trailer, with the required light for it as well.
You might get stopped for the tag location/no tag light, and then be questioned and measured for width.

There is a light on that fender. That is where the manufacture put the plate and light.

May or may not be a concern for most on this forum. Low profile between the fender style trailers are typically 81-82 between the fenders. A lot of equipment like my skid steer is 84 wide leaving your only option as a deck over to haul it which means steep ramps. Legal load width is 102 A couple manufacturers are making low profile trailers that are 106 inches wide and give you 86 between the fenders to load this type of stuff. Technically they are illegal without overwidth permits but a lot of guys run them under the radar. What are the odds the DOT is going to think a trailer is 4 overwidth or even think to measure it or notice it just by looking? Curious everyone逞エ thoughts on this. I have no idea what the overwidth finds are but have been thinking of buying one.

You will probably have less problems with the extra width on the road than you will have in here with the trailer ****'s.

I am looking at upgrading my car hauler trailer also. Most show around 83" between the fenders which works for me. If I was needing something wider I would go with a deck over trailer. If you are concerned about the angle of the ramps you can always extend the ramps to lessen the angle.

Very strange!?
"That is where the manufacture put the plate and light".
You bought the trailer new?

I wonder if there is an RMV requirement about how the plate is to be displayed?
I assume that the plate must be readable, and in a prominent location, but...
Sideways mounting? Upside down mounting?

What are hauling?
I believe here in Texas there is an exemption for farm trailers and farm use.

Kinda difficult to call it "farm use" when you are hauling a beautifully tricked out Jeep!

Maybe NOT!
Check: drivinglaws.AAA.com/tags.trailer-dimensions
Trailer limitations for ALL STATES are posted!
Kentucky width limit is listed as 8'-6" (102")
No additionally restrictive limitations are given for KY. state/city, and/or county roads.

While that may be so, this is what I find:

603 KAR 5:070 Section 3. Except as provided in Section 4 of this administrative regulation, the maximum dimensions for a motor vehicle or combination motor vehicle, except a bus, using a public highway in Kentucky shall be as follows:

(1) Height: including body and load, not to exceed thirteen (13) feet and six (6) inches (4.115 meters).

(2) Width: including body and load, not to exceed eight (8) feet (2.44 meters), excluding a width exclusion safety device.

There are exceptions for travelling on or near state highways or the interstate.
I work with federal regulations at my day job (specifically 14 CFR 25 and 14 CFR 33) and they make much more sense than Kentucky's road regulations! You can find them at ky.gov.

"Tricked out Jeep" does not belong to the OP. Rock Crawler was just describing what he has for a trailer that is over width and the potential he has with it if he wants to sell it.. Jon

Here in Texas you can have a trailer for farm use and use it for personal usage that is not farm related.
If you use it for business or to make money you may get busted.

So that tricked out rock crawler could be just fine on that trailer.
