Wow! That is one seriously nice setup!

So far, it's way more capable than I am. Randy Lackender knows what he's about.

How goes the boxblade experiment?

Re: PowerTrac Customizations 3pt 5\' Box Blade Mod

I can pretty much tell that it is going to be too big. But I am going to do it anyway /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Maybe tomorrow while the wife is away with the kids!

I'm trying to decide if I really want to weld the quick attach plate directly to the box blade. I found some heavy angle iron and think I might weld two pieces of that to the plate, then weld two more pieces to the box blade, then bolt it on. That way, I can remove it easier to experiment on other projects.

However, I might take Sunday afternoon off, as I was way too busy today and need some rest(see my post in the PT425 thread about a fun day).

MossRoad, how many extra quick attach plates did you purchase?

Re: PowerTrac Customizations 3pt 5\' Box Blade Mod

Rch - I'm not sure if this is what Rat was talking about or not, but the Europeans refer to what we term 4-in-1 FEL buckets as 6-in-1 buckets. For example, if you look at the EarthForce web site, you'll see that they offer a 6-in-1 bucket as an FEL option. I was confused about this when I first started looking at the EarthForce machines, but when I went to SC to look at them, I discovered that there's no difference. I guess the Europeans are just smarter than we are, and have discovered two more uses for them than we have. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif Or maybe their marketing guys are more clever. Now there's a scary thought...

Re: PowerTrac Customizations 3pt 5\' Box Blade Mod

Just one. That's why I want to make it transferrable for experimentation. Then, if I find something that I really want to make permanent, I'll order another one for that specific implement.

Do any of you guys know what size hydraulic motor would be needed to power a tiller that has a 540 rpm input shaft? This is for a PT422 with 8 gpm @ 2500psi fluid output.

That would take some thinking. How big is the tiller? How many PTO HP are recommended by the manufacturer? Can the PT422 deliver that much HP through a hydraulic motor, etc... The folks at Power Trac should be able to help you with it.

 / PowerTrac Customizations #91
I don't have any idea about the PTO horsepower required. The tiller is a Yanmar 4ft wide model. I don't own the tiller. A local dealer has some used ones for sale. He told me it was designed for tractors in the 25 HP and below class. I figured that since Power Trac manufactures a 4 ft tiller for use with the 400 series machines that surely the Yanmar tiller could be adapted . I called Power trac and asked about powering the tiller but the person I talked could only tell me the part number of the motor that they used for their tiller. He didn't offer specs.

I'm downloading the Prince hydraulic catalog as I write this. This could take a while. I'll let you know what I find. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Well, the Prince catalog is just too huge for my 28.8 connection. I'll down;oad it from a faster connection tomorrow.

Well, the Prince catalog is a bear to download and navigate. I did find some info regarding high torque, low RPM motors. They are expensive.

I asked the folks at Power Trac for some info regarding converting a PTO tiller to hydraulic. They said that the motor that they use on their tiller costs about $400 bucks. I believe taht it is the same motor that is on their trencher. Add to that the hoses, fittings, couplers, mounts and quick attach plate and that's about $650.00. You come out pretty close to the $900.00 for their tiller, which is probably engineered better than anything that I could put together /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. Now, you could probably find the proper motor for less than that price, but not much.

The guy was pretty blunt. He said that they have engineered these things down to the last penny to be priced competetively with all of the other implement makers. He said if they do not offer some sort of attachment, it is because they cannot make it for less money than someone else that already offers it.

It appears that I need to do alot of studying on hydraulics and hydraulic theory. So, I will be studying more. May be time to take a hydraulics class at the local community college. This stuff facinates me.

I did find some motors that might be suitable for the shredder/chipper project that I have in mind. They are about $160.00. It is low on my list until I find a cheap chipper/shredder with a bad engine. They best one that I found so far is $350.00 (ouch). I can wait on that.

Thanks for trying. Some of the local farmers use combine reel motors to power hydraulic drive attachments. These motors are available from equipment salvage places for $150.
My brother uses one to reel up used irrigation polytube. I know that they will produce a tremendous amount of torque. I am not sure of the motor speed or the hydraulic gpm output of the tractor he uses. I'll see if I can find one of the tractor manuals to find the specs.

It is good to have someone with some experience, like your brother, that can help you out. I'm winging it with the help of TBN /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Re: PowerTrac 1845 4 n 1

Charlie, thanks to all the great posts on these forums, yours and others, I've discovered Power Trac and was so impressed I paid them a visit to see for myself just what all the raves are about. Now there's yet another raving Power Trac convert here! What a great bunch of bright talented people putting some well thought out ideas into a product line that is simple, logical, and works. And is built like a tank to boot. What a concept. Now that I've placed my order, subject to my bankers approval, for my very own 1845 I have a question. Well lots of questions actually. But the one of the moment has to do with the Long 4n1. After much thinking about the various alternatives I've decided a 4n1 is a must have. Did you work with Long directly to get this set up or go through Carver? I didn't find any W R Long info on the net. Do you have a number for them? I can hardly wait to get on this thing and ARTICULATE & OSCILLATE many days away! Thanks to all for all the good info. John

Re: PowerTrac 1845 4 n 1

Congratulations on your purchase. You're right about it being a well thought out machine. I have had a PT422 for three weeks now. I continue to be amazed at how easy it is to do a tremendous amount of work in a hurry.

....Charlie, thanks to all the great posts on these forums, yours and others, I've discovered Power Trac

I just want to echo Sedgewood's accolades for Charlie, MossRoad, MCHalkley and others who so tirelessly expound upon the virtues of their powertracs (braggerts, all of you!). Seriously, those of us that are still in shopping mode are gaining tremendously from your insights and suggestions. Equally important, your kind demeanors come through as you patiently (again) answer our newbie questions. Yes, I'm sure it is fun for you, but thanks!

You all have convinced me that a PT is the right machine for the bearpen....now, if you can just help me find a good, (used is OK) "budget strecher". I've tried converting a board strecher, but it must be metric or something...I just can't get it to work.

Now that it is clear that the PT "clique" is a growing force, albeit an elite one, how 'bout a dedicated PT forum?
