I have to trim a couple of inches off the PTOthat came with my Herd spreader. I've never had to do that and loking for advice and/or suggestions. I want to get it right the first time.
I assume the tool of choice is a hacksaw?

I took my Herd Spreader PTO shaft to a local machine/welding shop and had them cut 2 1/2 inches off both halves so it would fit my tractor correctly. They had the metal band saw with the oil for lube as they cut. Cost me $12 Good Luck :p

Not a big deal, I started to cut one with a chopsaw, broke the blade, then on to a hacksaw, broke the blade, finished it with the cutting torch and a touch of the grinder... :D

If that's all you have, it will do the job. Less work though, if you happen to own a chop saw - or reciprocating saw (and a metal cutting blade)

chop saw with an abrasive wheel.

AWESOME.

took about 30 seconds.
perfect cut.

Maybe I don't use that saw for much else, but it was still worth every penny. :D

find a friend/neighbor who has one.
