Too true :(

Not to be a one upper, but my neighboer (a car salesman) told me an older fellow, just bought a brand new king ranch F350 or F450 for about 72k. I just dont understand why in the world that makes sense to anyone. A truck that size is purpose built for work I would assume but its kind of sickening getting into something that expensive with anything more than some dust on your dress shoes lol.

It makes you wonder how people ever got by with a standard cab half ton truck back in the day. :confused3:

And here I've been planning for my first purchase to be a King Ranch edition of the F450 when I win the lottery.

I wouldn't spend that much on a truck even if i won the lottery...

That train wreck of Cash for Clunkers ruined the used car market in terms of driving up prices and it hasn't normalized yet...Who knows if it ever will. If you're buying new and trading, you'll love it---If you're buying used, you won't.
Disposable income is still very low for many Americans and fewer people can stomach a $500-700/6 year payment for a new car. And they can't afford the maintenance on them either.
Although I'm continually amazed at the number of 30-50k vehicles I see rolling off the lots, $70k fifth wheel campers, new ATV's, etc...

Buying a new HD truck over 6000 lbs for a business is a great way to keep Obama out of your pocket. Talk to your CPA. Buy new truck or pay it in tax, easy decision for me.

Its not like you're getting a dollar for dollar reduction though. If you need a new truck anyway, great. But at the end of the day you still have 50k fewer dollars, less whatever your tax savings is. (so if you're in a 20% tax bracket and spend 50k, its a 10k savings.).
Hint- you can still take a 179 deduction and bonus depreciation on used equipment as well. Sometimes that's a better deal.

Of course its a better deal because you dont take the hit on depreciation in real dollars like you do with new equipment under 179.

Many of those get used to tow large travel trailers around the country seeing the sites and visiting grandkids. They are bought because they are comfortable for long rides and "we may as well enjoy our money while we are still up top of the ground"

Aaron Z

I didn't even consider that! I sure would think it would be cheaper to buy a 2nd house than buy a truck and trailer? You know as well as I do that they are not going to be pulling a pop up camper with a rig like that!

Lottery or not, its still alot of coin.

Two_bit_score- It really makes you wonder how America ever got built without leather and satellite navigation.

A second home defeats the purpose of 'traveling' :)

And have you seen those 5th wheel campers now? They ARE a 'house' Takes a lot of grunt to haul those over the mountains.

One of my brothers has been pulling his 38' fifth-wheel with an F550 crew cab, long customized bed, etc. And yep, that's not a typo; it was a 2008 F550, not F450. However, he and his wife had gotten into the habit of spending the summers in one place in the state of Washington and the winters in Texas, and not really doing any other traveling. So last winter they decided to leave the fifth-wheel they had in Texas and bought another one (same brand) to leave in Washington. So they sold the F550 and bought a Crown Victoria to go back and forth in. So I guess that's about the same as having two homes.

Crown Vic

25-26 mpg highway, reliable and very comfy..

Yep, we have a 2002 model that my wife drives on short city trips a lot and it's overall mileage since we've had it is 20.384, but on a trip to West Virginia, individual tanks of gas ran 25 to just over 28 mps.

My brother bought a very low mileage 2003 model last year.

Wife's g-grandfather was a well known home builder in east Texas long ago. We ran into someone who remembered him and said grand dad never had any power tools. Only used hand tools. Of course, many places he was building didn't even have electricity.

The leather was on the harnesses and saddles, and the navigation was by the natural satellites in the sky ;)

You know who I have sympathy for? The semi drivers of the 30's and 40's. Cross country in a cramped tin cab with no insulation and not even a radio. Whew!

Can you even buy a truck without AC anymore?

I don't know but who would want one? :cool2:

A update to thread. Working 7 days a week. If horse show or lessons were going to happen had to be 2013. I had to much stuff in 2001 to even think about moving from one truck to another.
Printed a sheet of paper out that said truck cost me 10 times what horse did and please treat it 10 times better than they do the horse. Guess what truck came back in great condition, might have been better than when it left.
Also I pay cash for everything , not trying to brag but a $ 64,000 dollar check is not something I do every day. There is a lot of pain and work in buying, What I think will be my last new truck.
Thanks for everyone's camper 012.jpg input.
