Is that the latest one headed for the border?

I enjoyed laying up on the rear window shelf on trips. No one even thought it might be dangerous in those days.

When I was young enough I road in the car standing up in the front seat. My Dad would put his right arm out to restrain me when he stopped.

We would always steer. Must be at least good practice to feel how a car behaves. I didn't like when my sister was allowed to do it. We would always be transitioning between the front and back seat.

^^^^^
My friend used to let her toddler grandson do that as they were going out their town road. It was all well and good in her old '87 GMC 3/4 ton toy truck, but she stopped doing it in her newer pickup after I pointed out to her that if they ever did have even a minor crash the air bag would deploy, injuring or killing the kid. It's too bad, as I suspect that allowing kids to do that would/will make them better drivers later on in life.

My Lady friend lets the cat sit on her lap in the car and I pointed out the same air bag issue. I wonder if there are any cases of pets being injured by air bags.

Dunno about airbags but long ago I quit letting any cat roam free in the car. After I braked for someone who pulled out in front of me, and I discovered the cat under the brake pedal.

No harm done, I got the cat out of there in time, but it was a close call.

Years ago with my 94 Dakota which didn't have a passenger airbag, I destroyed some poor girls cutlass. And my poor cat sitting on the passenger seat when flying into the Dash. Unhurt I think, it lived to 21.

Started driving the tractor picking up hay just before I was 5... really steered up and down the windrows as it crept along.

When I was 8 or 9 my grandfather would let me steer the car... as in a 20 mile trip and he was in the auto business so it was always a different car... mostly bench seats which made it nice... I really got the feel at a young age...

I worked as a gopher at the Dealership starting the summer after 5th grade... earned $50 a week and payed the folks $20 of the $50 every Friday... I parked and moved cars for years before I had my license... learned to double clutch and move around anything... even the bosses Pantera and Cobra... it was a dream job for a kid that liked cars...

For about a year I owned a S10 pickup... bench seat, no airbag and I let my niece steer... she was a natural... and by 12 she was driving the F150 with 5 spd around the ranch... her parents were impressed... her young sisters never had the opportunity and are very timid...

Unfortunately... a lot of my friends have kids that won't drive or have a license... even in the 20's... they are used to being driven everywhere which is a huge shift...

Here is a picture I posted before of my niece and I getting ready for a car show... I used the winch to load the cars and she did the steering... beaming ear to ear.

Even though she was 5 at the time... the small stature of the Bantam and American Austin was just the right size for her to help..

I dropped a coke can on the floor once and couldn't reach it right away. Few second later I had step on the brake. The can rolled right under. I had to crush it. It exploded. What a mess.

Speaking of cats in cars----
Our pet cat would always warn us when it wanted to barf.

Usually a loud wail and also at about the same curvy hilly road.
LOL, I'd grasp it by the neck and tail and hold him out of the window 'till he barfed.

Car sick cats?? who knew!
