Sheild gas thoughts?

With all of the above posts it would make an interesting thread to tell how we all got our experience. It would be all over the map.

We're talking about WELDING experience, right ? :)

That's a good idea, Yomax. Start a thread. You go first......

Okay first I am having a hard time getting my head around SA stating here that he began welding at 14 but he has repeatedly stated he has been welding for 2 weeks or so... swear to god he looks of age. Second... hanging around your dad (or mom) learning a craft, working with tools is invaluable. Too many kids today are button pushers and they have no idea how the button does what it does. Third... oh wait, I digress... we were talking shielding gas but that is beside the point... isn't it? :D

I tell everybody I want to be a kid when I grow up, they have more fun and no responsibilities!

My new toy...er tool came in last week. First job for it was to weld the corners of the cheap HF welding cart. This unit will take some getting used to, my cheapo welder has the wire hot as soon as it's on so you can easily shorten the wire length by hitting the side of nearby metal. The Everlast isn't hot until you pull the trigger, probably a good thing but something to create a habit with. I'm running flux core for now because I have some rolls hanging around. Curious, does anyone somehow strap these to their carts and still open the side door? This cart may get bigger rear tires and a front handle so it can be brought outside without sinking in the sand, I would like the welder to stay put while dragging it around.

I hate straps. :(. Could you post a pic of the other side of the welder that the door opens on??

The other side is a flat panel, see the link below. The right side tips up, you can see the hinges on top. I don't really want to do straps either. I see the back side has a small lip on the base that sticks out, I could make it slide under a piece of angle iron. That's all I have so far for ideas so far.

Too bad. Looks like the lid comes right down to the bottom. I've secured an Everlast Tig/Stick before using the bottom sheet metal screws that secure the lid to the frame.

Perhaps using the lip of 1/8" angle iron and the grooves in the plastic end caps to "capture" the unit?

Or could you bolt it to your cart from inside the wire feed compartment?

That's kind what I'm grappling with. I'm pretty sure I can lock the back down but don't really want to drill holes in my new machine. Maybe I could use the screw on the left side of the case and something underneath the door to Velcro it into place in the front.
