Well, its been awhile, so I thought I would fill everyone in on what happened. I didn't want to lay out for the Stihl, so I bought the troybilt combi-system another poster mentioned. I also bought the polesaw and hedge trimmer attachments. what a great idea I thought, 1 powerhead running 4 tools. I went with the 2-stroke brushcutter version, which is supposed to be the most powerful.
I ran one tank through it under light duty, just trimming weeds alongside the driveway. It did fine. Starts easy, no problems. I fill up a second tank, put on the chainsaw aqttachment lube it up, and head out to tackle soem small limbs. Does the job well, no problems. By this time I am very happy. I put on the hedgetrimmer attachment, lub it up and head over to one of my shrubs. 5 minutes into the job, the hedge trimmer stops moving, but the engine still runs. I figure I broke the attachment. Wrong, now none of the attachments work on the powerhead as it no longer spins the flex shaft when the engine revs.
It is now 11am, I started at 8am, 3 hours on this one. Back to Lowes I go. They gladly exchange it for another one, and swap out the hedge trimmer as well. I get home at 1 pm, run another tank through it under light duty, just to break the motor in. at this point I notice that the kill switch doesn't work, the only way to shut it down is to choke off the engine.
I figure ok, I am not driving back again today so I put on the brush blade and tried to cut some 1/4-1/2" brush alongside my pond. Halfway through the tank, flexshaft breaks again, no attachments will work.
It sits now in my garage waiting for me to return it to Lowes. A classic example of a great idea with poor execution.
Moral of the story, it seems you get what you pay for.
