I have two MF 135 diesels, a Cockshutt 550, a New Holland TN75F and a Yanmar 240D. While tractor choice always comes down to the solution needed, I have to admit I use the 240D more than any other tractor I own. It's a chore tractor, but that's what most people use tractors for. The 240D will pull a two bottom plow or 5 foot disc all day in 4WD, it has plenty of torque for almost any medium implement, has tons of power for a properly sized FEL and will do almost anything reasonably asked of it for next to nothing in fuel. Second to none for snow removal, I run it all winter with a blade on the front and a 3 pt hitch blower on the back. A Shaver HD-8 is perfect on the back and they till like they will never cough. They are loud and obnoxious, bang away like they are going to fly into pieces, but the secret is running them at about 2000 RPM, which is a sweet spot for the 240. You may need muffs on to protect your hearing, but you won't regret it if it will meet your need. The golden rule - Never buy more tractor than you need, but never buy less tractor than will do the job. A tractor needs to be a solution to a problem, nothing more / nothing less. I am a big believer in the MF 135. Without doubt, one of the greatest medium farm tractors ever built - but the 240D is used more than anything else in my stable.
