Thank you allan. What thread did you post the pictures in I would love to see how you did it. The tailgate on this trailer lowers like a tailgate on a pickup or opens from the bottom for dumping. Yes you are right I am extremely lucky that no one got hurt. One of my neighbors that I am friends with went around a corner on his way home. He was not speeding but a motorcyclist lost control of his bike in a curve. When my neighbor came around the curve all he saw was the motorcycle and rider sliding on the ground towards him. There was no way to miss him and he hit him and killed him. I have been thinking about how hard that must be to deal with. I am so glad that I did not have to try to deal with someone getting killed because of something I did. All that happened was some damage to the trailer. I would rather just trash the trailer and lose the money than have anyone be in pain because of something that happened. I did however call the guy that I bought the trailer from and told him he needed to do a much better job of welding on the stuff that he did.

Here,

Hope your's all works out well. Single axle is not something I would want, but your needs may well be different from ours.

If I am understanding things correctly now (I apologize for any confusion earlier) it was a dump bed that they had completed the transformation into a stand alone trailer, and had used it as such, then the pump motor (starter motor) went out and then they sold it? sounds like a heck of a deal.

Hope you get it sorted.

What type axle is under it?

gemini, I have seen wheels come off cars going down the highway, water heaters fall out of trucks directly in front of me on the freeway, a cab high pickup shell fly over the center median do a full 360 degree loop the loop directly in front of me and go back over the center median (tall oleander flowers in median so I couldn't see where the shell came from or went to) and on and on. So far the worst was looking in the rear view mirror and seeing my street legal dune buggy with the left rear wheel flopping weirdly. I stopped and unhooked the tow bar and manually pushed it back while turning the steering wheel to get it further off the paved shoulder when the wheel fell off and the car fell down on it. Apparently the axle shaft was broken nearly through from catching too much air in baja and chose that moment on the interstate doing 70 to come apart. Luckily I noticed it and stopped before it completely separated. It sure scared me. I was on a busy interstate (Dallas Ft Worth area) and it could have got someone hurt.

I understand fully your relief at not causing serious problems for someone. Had the wheel come of while I was doing 70 it could have been a messy situation.
