You're nit pickin cause I posted on an old thread.
You posted on and old thread an that's ok.
Don't get the double standard.
If you don't like old threads don't read em and most certainly don't post on them.

If you don't care to read a post or thread why not just not read it rather than putting someone down?

If I don't care to read a thread I don't read it and I couldn't care less when it was created.

I just don't get the phobia some have about an older thread.
Maybe the solution is to delete all threads over a year old.

Most people are complaining because you keep bringing up old threads for no reason other than to post meaningless words. The how-to and help forums should be limited to primarily this type of material. Bringing up old material just for the sake of making a post with no value doesn't do anyone any good. If you were resurrecting posts with new and relevant insight that would be helpful and add to the knowledge of the post or questions that were relevant I don't think anyone would say anything.

Take it easy Cowboydoc /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's a hard job to get to 17,859 posts if you have to write things of substance. That's why some high-posters on this forum are so amazing. Their day-to-day contributions of useful information lead to the respect they deserve. Others, on the other hand - we really can't say what we think since in today's society you aren't allowed to judge anyone's contributions or "value", since:

There's valuable information in old threads.

A simpler solution is for people to ask themselves, when they are about to add a reply to an old thread, is "Will this message add value to the thread?". If the answer is 'no', then don't reply.

This is the "Catch 22" for bulletin boards and Usenet newsgroups - the unmoderated ones tend to be full of cretins and spammers but you can use a twit filter, and the moderated ones tend to be sterile and way less spam, but no twit filters. I will say that in my experience, TBN is by far the best moderated group I have ever seen.

Just as in the general population of any online group, you will always have a few semi-sentient and/or illiterate posters who have discovered how to work the Internet but are hardly capable of expressing a coherent thought. I agree with you Mike; self-policing is the best solution - but it will not always work, not when the offenders are incapable of perceiving their own offensiveness. An "ignore poster" button or something like it would be a welcome addition.

Out where I live, slow and undependable dial-up is the only Internet service available. Some days it takes a long time to download all of the (possibly) interesting topics, just to see if there is anything there or not. Hence, my own pet peeve is topic names that are not specific, downright misleading, or have wandered far from their original point (like this one /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif).

At some point, and I'm not necessarily suggesting that it be here and now, we should have a philosophical discussion of an internet personality known as a "troll".

A Google search for the term "internet troll" is a good preparation for our theoretical discussion to be held some day, when it is less likely to be associated with any particular person or time period. Notice that while many descriptions of this type indicate they are malignant, there is also a benign form. Notice also that while many trolls are deliberate, it's also possible to have an unwitting form, one who acts without realization of their effect.

I agree with there being different kinds of internet trolls. There may be some who do it intentionally and some unintentionally, but I've also noticed on this site, and some other discussion forums, that there are folks that seem to be post-mongers. By that, I mean that these folks post early and often and most of the time, there posts have essentially no information of any value. That's not to say you can't have posts just for fun, but there should be some measure of information in the bulk of the posts made (in my opinion).

Please, don't think that I'm chippin' on folks that make tons of posts and pass along good info...but there seems to be at least an equal if not greater number of folks who post nothing more than tag-on posts with no new value.
