why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon

/ why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon #91
We have been seeing a MTlion around these parts and I worry about them. I had a friend get stalked by one 2 weeks ago.

Ill put it this way Id rather have my old 32 and not ever need it than to need it and not have it. My biggest worry is that alot of folks here are on dope. With a less than stellar sheriffs dept that doesnt seem to want to respond to petty things like domestic disputes breakins and anything other than a beer comming into the county.

I hope EVERYONE who carries (and owners who may not carry) and has had any training would know this automatically. Our trainer drilled it into our heads that the weapon ONLY comes out if you need to use it at that moment. Not to wave around and show off. Not to fire warning shots....ONLY to stop an immediate threat that in your mind, had no other solution.

If anyone had any training paid or free and you were not told this....you were jipped and you may want to ask for a refund, because shooting the gun is not the main thing....using your head is the main thing

Here in Michigan (upper and lower) that's referred to as 'Brandishing' and it's a felony plus it's immediate and permanent loss of your concealed carry, among other things like spending time at the local constabulary, the one with bars on the windows......

If anything, when I'm carrying, I'm even more acutely aware of whats transpiring around me and looking for avenues of escape without confrontation.

Always keep in mind that if you draw your firearm in self defense, chances are you will be arrested and likely prosecuted and tried in a court of law for your actions. As a responsible firearm owner, hunter and target shooter,(myself) using deadly force in any situation is absolutely the last resort because of the consequences.

In this state (yours and mine) it's a requirement of the NRA approved training class (4 hours classroom and 4 range at the minimum)

It's all basically common sense, not that a lot of people exhibit common sense today. I have no problem with the requirements of a concealed carry in this state. It eliminates the undersirable portion of society from obtaining one.

To hold a concealed carry in this state is like making the Honor Roll in school. Only the best and the most law biding citizens qualify. People who respect not only their fellow man but hold the Constitution in high regard.

I never carry just to carry. I carry when the situation or gepgraphy requires it, for my personal well being and my loved ones. I fully well know what that firearm will do and the consequences of me using it for protection.

So no, I don't agree with the OP's thread line od always carrying your weapon. There is a time and place to carry and a time and place not to. It's all about discretion and common sense.

25-colt maybe I schould put it back in the safe and bring out the 45 ruger and its loaded just like my other thing that hangs on the wall to put out fires.

Trudge down to the local gun shop and trade in your .25 Colt and the .45 Ruger. The .25 is a collectors item (should bring some long green) and the .45 Ruger, if it's an early model is worth a bit too.

Get yourself a .454 Causill or a.500 Smith. Then you are a man (with a sore wrist)......

I lived in Germany for 3 years. The concept that they do not have violent crime is a myth. The Russian Mafia has expanded their operations in a massive way since the formation of the Euro. In addition they have a major issue with Turkish gangs in the cities (the primary type of migrants) as well as the rise of **** (skinhead) gangs.

Risk is strongly related to location (as always) and there were plenty documentaries of neighborhoods where the police were afraid to enter or investigate (and German police ARE armed). I lived in a small town of 1800 people and the police column in the newspaper contained only incidents of people in traffic incidents calling each other "stupid cow" and trading a few slaps.. Even so - no arrests. However, an hour and a half drive away was Frankfurt with neighborhoods you definitely didn't want to be in. Berlin had the skinheads and Koreans. If you looked like an "auslaender" you could get beaten to death or put in a wheel chair. If you opened your mouth, basically you could be toast even if you looked like them.

Apparently the lessons of WW2 and the German "blitzkrieg" vs disarmed nations is going to have to be relearned at a terrible cost in the future. I have to wonder whether the UN has already agreed on the nations which they will allow China to overrun as they seek to expand their territory ? Otherwise it is hard to believe the stupidity of what is going on at the UN currently ?? The Swiss offer a perfect example of what an armed homogeneous society looks like. No-one has ever invaded them this century and crime is extremely low. A trained, disciplined and armed population is a major strategic deterrent to invaders.

Spent part of last summer with a fellow from Germany, an engineer from John Deere, here for a seminar/training session at Rock Island.

Europeans aren't granted the right to bear arms under the Constitution because they have no Constitution, unlike the United States. Consequently, owning firearms and/or carrying a firearm is completely foreign to them and has been for generations. It's not a normal thing (like it is here) so why desire something that's not even considered in the normal course of living and society.

European society is much more progressive in thoughts and actions and political stance, than the United States. Consequently (with the exception of the Arab countries and Australia), there is little need for the citizens to bear arms except for sporting purposes. Europeans treat each other with much more respect than citizens of this country. It's the respect for each other that negates the need to bear arms.

Beacuse no European country is a democracy and the central government (of each country dictates what the citizens can or cannot do (and has for decades), the very idea of gun ownership is alien to the general populus.

That's horrible to discover a dead body. When I was in college I worked summers as a deck hand, and later got my pilot's license so I could relieve the captain. It wasn't all that uncommon to see a cow bloated and floating down the Ohio river. I still recall the incident as if it were yesterday, but one "cow" I started to use a gaff hook to push off the stem was not a cow at all, but a severely bloated human. I'd really rather not experience that again. The body was so badly decomposed that each time the authorities tried to retrieve the body, the part they grabbed just pulled off the corpse. Finally had to use a loading crane with some straps. The smell was one I'll never forget.

As far as carrying, I have collected firearms for many decades, had an FFL license at one point many years ago, and currently have a lifetime License to Carry a Handgun for my state. The trouble is making sure all states recognize your license if you travel armed. Some think you have to have an FFL to carry a suppressed weapon or a fully automatic weapon. That is not the case. You only have to fill out a detailed application for a $200 Class III stamp and be approved. I do know guys who have been approved for a carry license but were denied their Class III stamp, so at least I know the vetting process is more thorough before you are legally to carry a fully automatic Uzi in your car.

I have a couple hundred acres that are quite rural. I've found the remnants of meth labs there and nearly a dozen tree stands from hunters illegally trespassing on posted property. When I go to that parcel of land, I almost always have my trusty Glock 29, 10mm, in my right front pocket. If I were to ever come upon a meth lab in operation, I would want to have some sort of protection. My plan would be to hide and call the authorities, but I doubt they would get there in less than a half an hour. The other issue is the trespassing deer hunters I've found in their stands want to argue with me and not leave. They are obviously armed and I have called the police and game warden while I detained the unruly trespassers. Only once have I had to tell the hunter in a deer stand on my property that it would really ruin his day and my day if he pointed his rifle in my direction. He was as drunk as could be and it was only about 8am when I found him.

I used to be a lot more of a pushover when I found people trespassing on my property because I hadn't owned it that long. However, the previous owner had it for 40 years and never gave anyone permission to hunt, so all the stories about "I have permission from the owner" (then when they discover they are talking to the owner) "Well, I had permission from the previous owner" (which I know is BS) only tick me off and I call the law. If they apologize, admit that they were trespassing and claim to not return, I allow them to take their stand and leave. It's only when they want to press the issue with me that I press back. I'm not going to die to stop a trespasser, but I'll be darned if I'm going to let a drunk one shoot me and later try to claim they thought I was a deer as my family has to survive without a father. I'd rather not be part of one of those stories, but I won't be run off of my own property by a trespassing hunter. I'd rather talk my way out of a confrontation and then disable their vehicle as I wait for the authorities and let them do their job.

my point was and is that the unexpected happens unexpectedly , not just in "dangerous areas."

in the USA there are examples where a shooter enters a cafeteria, Ihop restaurant , university ,etc and shoots innocent people without provocation . police respond and count the casualties . i am certain the girl i found was shot elsewhere and dumped on my ranch by someone who could have been armed .

this is rare and unexpected !

thus if you have a CCL you should have a weapon sufficiently comfortable to carry at all times where legal. that way you do not have to retreat to get it (always retreat if realistic and reseasonable to do so ). returning to the scene armed risks you being viewed as the aggressor.

yes, only pull your weapon to STOP THE IMMEDIATE THREAT ! if you say you pulled it to shoot, then concerns can arise as to your intent.

I live on my property and practice at only the cost of ammo.

your situation may vary and your decisions may reasonably vary from mine

Dargo, love your icon ! Reminds me of the cow that fell into a feed trough the other day in the barn where I couldn't get the tractor. Feet off the ground and she couldn't get out. Big mess, had to call neighbor for help. 1400 lbs of cow is hard to move !

TexasJohn, I saw that on the news and figured the gal was probably caught up in a bad lifestyle. Maybe not. Anyway, sorry about you being the one to find her. It hits closer to home when one of your "tractor brethren" have it happen to them.

Have they come up with any more leads on the case?
