It wasn't the unions fault as why IH and the Scout went down. It was the horrendous 1960's level build quality that did it, especially when better quality imports were hitting their stride.

Have you ever been in Land Cruiser from that era? They would literally rust as you drove them through a car wash!

I remember looking at one at the local Toyota dealer a long time ago and it was corroding on his lot. Nice vehicle, terrible ruster.

My 1997 Ford F350, 7.3 forged rod diesel long bed 4 door 4wd. Not a spot of rust on it, runs like a top too. Of course it sleeps in a heated garage all winter. If it didn't with all the crap they put on the roads up here, it would have corroded away long ago.

My best friend had one, a 76 I believe, and a hellova wheeler, as long as you could keep it running, and body parts wasn’t rusting off…

I’m not sure how many times I went and hauled it to the repair shop on my car hauler behind my 77 f250

I would have to agree with that. I would assume that the demise of IH could be a good case study even today. Some things never change.

Right before his time @ IH he drove Xerox down to a non-growth company from a very high growth company, my brother was a high earner from Xerox during that period.
