Still on strike. Getting colder up here as well. Pretty soon the 55 gallon drums and wood pallets will be getting burned to keep the strikers warm.

I'm sure Fain is quite toasty however. Probably brown bagging it as well, cannot even afford McDees anymore. Baloney on sponge bread with a dab of mustard and a bottle of cheap brew.

If I was to EVER buy an EV, it would have to be a hybrid, not that will every buy one anyway, because I won't. Heck, my Focus gets 40 mpg every day and being retired, I don't motor that much anyway.

Hey Gale,

Have you ever made a cross country road trip using the dependable Tesla superchargers? How was the FSD? We'd all love to hear about it again (and again)
Yes . Since getting it in Jan I have put 14K miles on the car charging at home. Recently I had a cross country to Austin Texas to work a tradeshow. Going out I was figuring out things
Coming back knowing FSD was hitting on all cylinders I just got in the car and said navigate to home, put it in gear set FSD and took off and that was pretty much the last of the thinking process as far as the drive itself went. It did all the decision making process. Found the superchargers that she wanted to charge on and 800 mi later I was at my driveway.

Today I'm driving the 2016 Leaf SL that has a 2020 40 kilowatt hour battery in it. It is nice but nothing like the Tesla. I'm having trouble keeping from running over stuff because I got used to the one pedal driving which is awesome. :)

Back when Tesla's was more expensive than Toyotas, I was looking seriously at the RAV4 plug in hybrid and so I bought a 2015 Prius C to serve as a test bed to learn that technology since I've never owned a Toyota in my life. I'll have driven Nissans for the last 50 years. Actually impressed with the Toyota hybrid technology. It's very slick. The only downside that I found was you had the worst of both worlds. Getting rid of oil changes and gas stations was a major major improvement for my life.

What are you currently driving?

A trip to Austin? Please tell us about that trip.

Cousin Jeff had a Prius and traded it on his Tesla. I wish he would have told me he was going to do that as I would have bought it. Oh well. My plan was to add Tweco connectors to the battery and use it for field welding. Better than toting my Lincoln gas drive welder in the pickup truck.

Like I said, I'd buy a hybrid but never a plug in and the price has to get in line before that happens.

I see Fords and Fain/UAW have come to a tentative agreement that has to be ratified and voted on but that still leaves GM and Stellantis groveling. They didn't get their 40% either. They got 24% over 4 years. Still knowing who I do at Fords, I'm confident that Fords will be building plants in RTW states and moving south and opening in a non union atmosphere.

Marshall battery plant is up in the air still and Not sure about their suppliers. I'm sure there will be a price increase on new vehicles, not that anyone can afford a 'well appointed' one today, anyway.

I sure as heck cannot.

Yea, the warranty on a Mach E battery is 8 years/100,000 miles. Then what? I have (2) vehicles older than 8 years now. My old F150 would probably be on its 3rd or 4th battery by now if it was an EV. Aftermarket EV battery replacement is going to have to be a thing.

A friend of mine tried to cheap out on batteries for his electric golf cart and got bit. He ended up replacing the replacement batteries. An EV would be that times about 6 or 8 I guess.

True . spent 1700 on our golf cart batteries. If you are looking to buy an electric have to go in with eyes open and accept long term risk or accept trading in for something else when it gets to the end of the warranty. pay your money and take your chances.
... and pay a premium price to junk it because the battery is Haz Mat.

Or companies like Redwood Materials will buy them since they have successfully recycled over 90% of the EV batteries they have processed so far,

and just released their pricing sheet for dismantlers.

But not for individuals, only recyclers and dealers and I bet the original owner gets screwed.
This is all very new, hard to say if dismantlers are just accepting or paying but it sure sounds like no one is paying a hazardous waste disposal fee.

Even when the general public isn’t able to buy some production always goes to government and fleet sales…

Considering he answered that question days earlier I can't tell if you are being facetious or serious.
