North Texas "cold snap"

And we're supposed to get a couple of inches, and maybe we will, but so far maybe a couple of hundredths of an inch.

I guess those weather prognosticators were right, after all. This morning, about 6:30 a.m. I had 2.25" of rain in my gauge, and we're still getting a very light rain. Of course they had forecast a low of 32, then changed it to 35, and now say it actually got down to 38, but supposed to go down instead of up today.

Bird, it was 32 here this morning at 6:00 AM. I also have 2.25" of rain and light rain falling still. I walked out on my deck to go to my firewood box and the deck has not frozen over. I suspect it will later since the temperature has dropped 1/2 of a degree in the last hour. I don't care if we get a little snow, but I sure don't want an ice storm. With this light rain and cooling temperature, it's the ice storm I worry about. I think folks up in Oklahoma have a combination ice storm and snow storm. I really feel sorry for them. We are lucky to have our weather where ice is the exception rather than the rule.

I haven't checked the gauge yet, still a drizzle here too.

One thing I noticed a couple of weeks ago, my "dry" creek has had pools of water in it since mid December. Seems like its been a few years since we have turned towards spring with this much moisture. It would be nice to enter Spring gardening with a good amount of water.

I have about 100 trees coming from the Texas forest service, the ground should be prime for starting young trees. Last year when some came in, it was late February when I planted and it was very dry, I had to water them for quite some time.

An Ice storm would devastate my little trees..

Well, no ice storm, but the snow is coming down with big flakes and we have 1/2" to 3/4" accumulation on our deck so far. Stand by. . . .

Jinman, you've got allot more snow accumulation than we have in SW Wise Co. good size flakes here too, but just a dusting..

Wife drove to work in Weatherford, said the roads where ok for her hot rod. Hopefully they will dry out for the evening commute prior to freezing. If it ices she won't drive her car.

We are waiting for the storm here.

The forecasts are going back and forth about getting all snow, wintery mix and ice. Snow is ok. Notice I did not say good. Wintery mix is sorta ok. Ice is NOT ok.

The latest forecasts have 1/4-1/2 inch of ice 60-90 miles south of us. Hope we don't get it. Hope they don't get it either but someone is going to get it.

Stopped at the auto store last night to buy a cheap siphon pump to get gas out of the Toyota for the generator if we need the extra fuel. Don't know why I had not bought one before Got a couple gallons of 93 for the chainsaw. Plenty of food and beer.

Latest forecast is for us to get 5-7 inches of snow. North of us is 8-10 inches of snow.

Then we get temps back down to 16 and 13 Saturday and Sunday nights. Oh Joy.

I figure I only got 2.40", saw just a few tiny particles of sleet just before noon, and Margaret says she thinks she saw a few little snowflakes.

Dan, I saw on the news last night that the storm had made it to NC. It looked pretty brutal with people who drive like we do here. I hope you are hunkered down and staying warm and dry.

Well boys it got us! Rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow! All in that order. Freezing rain= no power here on the "frontier". Our power went out on Thursday around 8:15pm (1-28-10) and is still off as of 6:00am this morning(2-01-10). No electricity, no water (well), no heat (total electric), 5000 watt generator, 2 milk house heaters, 1 electric blanket on bed, oil lamps, propane stove to cook on (and heat a "LITTLE") I know it's dangerous:carbon monoxide...Anyway, wife and I are back to work today, livestock is getting feed, water from pond (breaking ice), grader ran yesterday to clear the county roads and power company says it "might" be working again on Wednesday. We talked this weekend (had plenty of time) about those other sources of heat! Talked wood stove and propane ventless heater...Life is still good. We have our health, jobs and a few bucks until payday and most of all the Lord is still good to us.
