Price Check Uncompetitive PT implement pricing

Big diesel tractors have gone up a lot in the last 10 years, but the small stuff has not. I think that this is more to do with mass production than anything. The lawn/ garden tractors at the Home Depots have not increased at all, and maybe have even gone down a bit. That creates more of the sticker shock on the PT.

I would contend that much of the reason for flat prices on lawn and garden tractors at Home Depot and Lowes and other places is because of the large decrease in quality over the last 10 years. You used to be able to get good, quality, long lasting machines for those prices. Now, they are throw-away purchases. Of course, consumers drive the market for these types of things. Price seems to be the main concern, too few people demand quality anymore.

I have seen several people who have two tractors because it is difficult to change attachments. By being able to change attachments in a few seconds, I can limit myself to one tractor . Just one man perspective.

Interesting thread.

I looked through my notes and found the list of a Kubota BX2200 in 2000 was $10486. On the Kubota web site, the current list price of a BX2360 is $10819. Not that much of a price increase in 10 years. If anything the BX2360 is more machine than the BX2200 was.

For years I wanted a PT in the worst way. It seemed the PT was the only machine I would be able to afford. I kept saving my pennies, but the PT kept getting more expensive, always staying out of reach. By the time I was able to get a tractor, the price of the PT had risen to the point where it made more sense to buy a traditional, main stream tractor.

I have always liked PT's. They have features and abilities unlike anything else on the market. But cost is always a factor. To the prospective buyer looking at tractors, a base 425 is now $11000 which is more than a base BX2360. Not to mention the 0% offered by the big guys. Makes the gas PT a tough sell, IMHO.

I hope people don't get upset with my comments. I really like the PT and wanted one for years. I still think they are great machines. They have gotten a little pricey in the past few years though...

There are comparable machines like the Toolcat for 2 to 3 times as much as a PT. Also some European machines that are very expensive.

Absolutely true! Although to be fair to the Toolcat people, I'm not sure they would agree a Toolcat is comparable to a PT. Ventrac is a closer comparison for sure.

No one will get upset at the truth. :)

There is a LOT of steel in a Power Trac. Really thick steel. I think that is most likely the reason for the price increases over the years. However, they are getting to be pretty expensive when you try to compare them to a standard CUT.

They are a unique machine and that is what they have going for them. Supply and demand will dictate the price.

And they are made in the USA. That counts for a LOT in my book!

Really interesting post. Not upset al all. It is obviously in all our best interests here that PT survives and can continue to sell machines. Hopefully they read this forum and use the feedback to better steer their company to the needs of the market.

For the most part consumers are idiots! They want the cheapest parts available with no concern about quality. They will pay the mechanic, me, to replace them multiple time costing them way more in the long run.
