Hey Chris 
On the older 00 & 30 series if you depress the treadle pedal with the seat spun around and the HST in gear the safety switch will stall the engine. I'm not sure if this is the case w/the newer 50 & 60 series as I've heard they will even start in gear.
Over time you'll get to where you can do minor repositions via the BH boom but if you're going at a large stump you'll end up having to do multiple repositions all the way around the stump and using the BH to reposition in this case is futile
You're going to have to drive the BX around that stump -or- major digging project.....
Alot of times when I'm using the BH and thumb to pick & place material I don't even spin the seat for this, I just physically turn around enough to reach the joysticks and grab or place the material where I want it. I REALLY like what the BH & thumb bring to the table.
Normally if I'm going to be digging I want the seat spun around so I'm comfortable in that task, and deal w/whatever repositoning I have to do when the time arrives
