How come only three at a time?

Not sure. It locks me up and then says I need a security code or something...

I gotta call it a night... I'll post more tomorrow. Have a good night!!

2.) The tractor trailer driver using his Converse to contemplate his next profession.

He's a gem; maybe he can be a bouncer at a bar.

I'm somewhat surprised the framing crew didn't assemble the columns and trusses flat on the concrete pad and tilt them into place with the telehandler as that Gehl looks to be more than up to the task of erecting the building that way.

Sorry to hear the GC screwed up on the sill detail.

In any case it's looking good and thanks for sharing the pictures.

I looked at what I am guessing is the manufacturer's website. Seems like the sill notch could have been backfilled with treated lumber (or custom iron) bolted to the slab. Maybe not too late? Just a thought.

Great pics ITIC! Sorry about the GC trouble, seems to be par for the course with a lot of general contractors today. And I don't say that just to be slamming GC's. I've worked on, and with, construction crews my whole life, and the lack of proper layout, engineering comprehension, pre-planning and follow-through is rampant in the field.

There are still good, experienced, general contractors out there, but it seems there are a lot more that are not! Your comment about the GC failing to study the engineered drawings is a common mistake that many make. Engineering/structural drawings and specifications should ALWAYS take precedence in ANY construction project, and be studied meticulously before the first shovel of dirt is moved. Any GC that tells you otherwise shows incompetence and ignorance.

I hope you can resolve your issues and get everything on track! Sometimes you can still make chicken soup out of chicken spit! A smart, creative cook and a few more key ingredients can work miracles at getting that bad taste out of your mouth!

I just saw the pics of the stuck truck. That's crazy, but all too common. No telling with some of those guys. The good ones seem to very extremely cautious. They get out and walk the area. That guy didn't look like he ever walked anywhere if he could avoid it!!!
Eddie
LOL. The following morning we found him asleep in his rig around the corner... it's probably a challenging profession. At the Super Bowl Party I heard about about a friend that got fired last week for having his 9th fender bender in 4 years... ouch!

That's too bad...So typical...:(
We did lot's of research. We had excellent results up until this long weekend. Not sure why the GC insisted on having the building delivered on this particular weekend. He must have known well in advance that he was gonna be out of the town for the 4 day New Years Eve/Day weekend. :confused3:

Nice thread. I am thinking of putting one of these on my land down the road in Smithville. When I get closer, I'd like to pm you about your research on the brand of building and the builder you ended up with.
We did lot's of research and believe we thoroughly understand it. We'd be glad to invite you out to see what we ended up with...

Where are the pictures? That's violating TBN rule #1...;):)
:D

Post number 1:eek:
:D

Thank you!! :)

Sure does. I'm really enjoying your build.
Thank you. We have had a blast from the get go. I wish I could build things for a living - no timeclock - work outdoors - know my two hands constructed something of value - watch my clients enjoy what we've built for them - have a finished product to look at and marvel. Of course I'd like to be a school teacher too so I could get home early and have a two month vacation every summer too. :confused2:

Maybe a bouncer at a small cheesy 'hole in the wall' bar... :). LOL. Poor guy - at least we didn't "Youtube" him... :D.

We've spoken to many metal building companies and industry experts - we are learning more and more about the whole process. Unfortunately the laborers ignored several things from the construction video, instruction manual and engineered prints. Minus the notch in the concrete - It is my personal opinion the project would have gone more smoothly if the GC was present during the building process - he could have explained to the crew what needed to occur - unfortunately he wasn't there for a nano second during the 4 day process. ;)

After we inspected the structure they attempted to remove the wall panels at the door locations (3 roll doors and 2 walk doors) because they fastened the trim before they attached the wall panels. The wall panels had daylight at the doors because they were not affixed - the metal rested on the head of the fasteners that attached the trim to the columns. a.) On a 14x14 door they forced fasteners in to the wall panel - now we have the heads of the self drilling fasteners, that secured the trim, sticking out/through the wall panel. b.) On a walk door they damaged the heck out of trim - looks hideous... it would probably $10 or less in materials to fix it. Regarding the base trim: We are open to suggestions. I think the wall panels height from surface and distance from the columns are based on the notch in the ledge and lack of base trim. I think if the notch was filled in - they'd have to remove and reinstall the wall panels up on to the new ledge aka base trim. I think we'd end up with 100's of more holes... :ashamed:

Let's do all future communication by instant message - I don't want to further discredit anyone on a public forum.

We are "glass is half full" kind of family. In fact, our glass has runneth over... so we have no business making a mountain out of mole hill. We were optimistic coming in to this project and we are optimistic coming out of this project. We trust the man upstairs - it's all good. We are not perfect so we don't demand perfection out of other people. At the same time - we hope we end up with exactly what we discuss. If they were smart they'd pour free aprons to save face... they could also do 'materials only' for under the lean too's we intend to build... that's why I'd be terrible in a construction setting... I would own up to my mistakes and I'd spend my own money to earn a referral.
Regardless of everything, we are on :cloud9: because this Ranch is going to be a blast for our entire family!!
