why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon

/ why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon #121
We discussed the European policy at great length and I came to some conclusions, as follows...

Europeans aren't granted the right to bear arms under the Constitution because they have no Constitution, unlike the United States. Consequently, owning firearms and/or carrying a firearm is completely foreign to them and has been for generations. It's not a normal thing (like it is here) so why desire something that's not even considered in the normal course of living and society.

.......
Beacuse no European country is a democracy and the central government (of each country dictates what the citizens can or cannot do (and has for decades), the very idea of gun ownership is alien to the general populus.
......
In the case of Australia, it was government mandate brought about by the people that removed weapons from the hands of citizens. Interestingly however, the criminal segment never turned in their guns so now crime perpetrated with firearms in Australia is against unarmed citizens, a sad affair.

.

I try to stay out of the the gun nut discussions ;) but cannot let some of this drivel go unchallenged.

You are flat out wrong to publish (and I note without any disagreement from fellow posters:confused2:) that there are no democracies in Europe or that no European country has a constitution. Did you do any fact checking at all before stating those falsehoods? I find it truly astonishing that several posters have even complemented that post as though it was true. Is the TBN crowd really that ignorant of world history?

For the record, virtually EVERY country in Europe is both a democracy AND has a constitution. I'm using democracy here in the casual sense that we use it to describe ourselves (elected representative government) as the US is not technically a Democracy either (I believe we are technically a democratic republic or constitutional republic). Many of the European constitutions are modeled after ours and ours is based in large part on the English Magna Carta which is part of the development of the series of laws and acts that serve as the UK "constitution". The constitutions are different than ours and sometimes called "basic laws" or in the case of the UK are a series of acts modified over the centuries (as ours has been) but be sure that we are not unique in having a constitution. We might be the only country that specifically addresses a right to bear arms but rest assured we are not the only country with a constitution or democratic form of government.

History lesson over. You can all now go back to your anecdodal arguments in favor of arming the population. I will note however that there are more gun related deaths per capita in the USA than in almost any other non warring nation on earth. The only countries with higher rates of gun related deaths are South Africa, Guatemala, Thailand, and Colombia. Great company. I guess all those hand guns are working very effectively to make us more secure.

As a self described "Gun Nut" I will gladly take any firearms you have off your hands. I'm sure you have heard all the cliche's about gun ownership but alot of them hold true.

Do you really think that if all guns disappeared off the face of the earth tomorrow that the murder rate would drop to non existent levels? Get Real. Criminals will always get their hands on a weapon legal or not. I just don't see why "Anti-Gun Nuts" think the world would be all better if we just got rid of firearms. All that would do is disarm the law abiding citizen.
I am with Uncle Ted ( Nugent) on this one and i don't see how anyone in their right mind could disagree with what he says here TEXAS MONTHLY TALKS - TED NUGENT - YouTube

BTW- here is a quote It sounds like you argee would agree with:
"In the ideal society, only the police would have and posess firearms". -- care to guess who said it?

I would replace Marg with Cindy Crawford.

In the United States, we have a Bill of Rights that prohibits any interference with the right to own (bear) firearms.
We have enough idiots in this country that want to limit or elimnate that RIGHT.

As a foreign national, it's not your place to interfere, or even comment, on our rights...just as you would not want US citizens interfering with how your country is ran...correct?
Man, I feel like a remedial civics class teacher today.

Before you get on your high horse about foreign nationals etc, it might help to review your geography and history books. RecoveryHill is from St.Croix, US Virgin Islands. The US Virgin Islanders ARE US citizens. And believe me they do have lots of US citizens in the form of the US Congress involved in how their country (US territory) is run.

Let me guess: ******, Stalin, Genghis Khan?

I frankly have a very hard time takiing seriously any opinion shared with Ted Nugent. The man is a drug addled nut job, first class. Did you forget his quote regarding his "confrontation" with a Hare Krishna:
  • "And in my mind, I'm going why can't I just shoot this guy in the spine right now; shoot him in the spine, explain the facts of life to him"
    • Ted Nugent, as guest DJ on WRIF-FM, Detroit, September 28, 1990;

Actually, the US Virgin islands has zero Senators and only one Representative in Congress. and even so, she has limited voting priviledges. So their say on how their Territory is ran is very limited. Atleast on the US gov't level.

Might want to re read that history book you are throwing around today.

Secondly, you might want to also research Ted Nugent a little more before you bash him hap hazardly.
He has always been anti drug. As a matter of fact he is the national spokeman for the DARE program and sits on the board of the NRA. Is he perfect? Far from it, but I love your stereo typing...

I'm well aware of the US Virgin Islander citizenship status. Notice I did not refer to their voting in presidential elections nor did I get into details of their special status representatives in Congress who participate in committees but don't have floor vote rights. They have no representation in the Senate. Similar in many ways to the status of Washington DC "citizens" though DC does have three electoral votes in the presidential election while the Virgin Islands have none.

As for Ted Nugent. If he isn't drug addled then that removes the last reasonable explanation for being such a twit. Really, we may not agree on this gun issue but I assure you there are more worthy sources than Ted Nugent.

I agree. but Ted was dead nuts on in his response in that particular interview. In other issues he is off that wall quite a bit. But, that is just Unce Ted being Uncle Ted.

Obviously not. You have several posts in this thread

I didn't say that, in fact I stated that I discussed it with a German Citizen this last summer and it was his view, not mine. He related the scenario to me. Candidly, I really could care less.

For the record, virtually EVERY country in Europe is both a democracy AND has a constitution.
