How Strong is the JD Cab's Glass

I don't know about JD's cab glass ,but that was a worry for me when I got my kubota . I ended up getting Insurance with Kubota and if i break one it's $250 deductible no matter what hits it ...rock ,limb, or bird.
Reminded me of when the farmer where I worked was mowing and came back with the back window broke out , glass all though the cab and even had some cuts on his arms. He said he picked up a rock when mowing. He had it replaced and one day not to long after that while just getting out of his cab shut the door and walked away when we heard it blow out, or I should say in. When we cleaned out the glass around the window gasket we found a few small stones between the frame and where the gasket went. He thought maybe there were in there when the new window was put in ,maybe not , but it sounded like a gun going off .

Yeah, that's what tempered glass sounds like when it breaks.

cabs have both, just like a vehicle, laminated in the windshield and tempered every where else.

How big a branch will break cab glass? Depends a whole lot on the impact velocity and where and how the impact occurs.

Will cab glass break? Yes.
Does it break often? No if you are careful; yes if you are not.
Some cab tractor owners never break cab glass, others are repeat glass customers. If you habitualy operate a cab tractor with a door or window open, your chances of breaking that glass are exponentially higher than if it were kept closed.

Not sure if I am misinterpreting your answer here, but it sounds like you are ticked off with my question. All I am really looking for are stats about the glass strengthen/durability of the JD 4000 series compact tractor cabs because I could not find any. Is the front glass stronger than the sides or rear glass or is it the same all round? The glass is curved so does that add or detract to the strength of the glass? So far it sounds like the glass could be laminated in the front and tempered on the sides and back or it could be all tempered glass. In addition, it sounds like the curvature of the glass could provide a little more strength possibly.

I was also wondering what other JD 4000 compact tractor cab owners experienced when they hit stuff.

As for velocity, I am simply mowing slowing (may be 2-3MPH) through the woods and might hit some branches at 1 ½" or less.

So like I said; I have a 3730, but it's said to be the same cab as the 4x20 series. Hence the same glass: Pilkington. I'll go out when the sun comes up and copy down the numbers on the panes. Small chance, but they might help differentiate between laminate and tempered. I'll also look closely at the edges. Not sure that it proves anything, but tapping on the windshield produces a different sound than tapping on the doors or the rear window. However I think that may have more to do with construction than glass type.

Yeah, I was not sure if it was my question or something else. I try not to draw conclusions because people can interpret responses from posts or emails in many different ways.

I'm pretty sure that the windshield sounds different because it is laminated glass and all the rest are tempered. Again it should say tempered or laminated in one of the lower corners with some other numbers that are actually just licence numbers to allow them to make that type of glass. Any curved glass that is supported continuously on all sides is stronger than a flat piece that would be in the same type of frame.

Nope. All four sides have identical markings. Windshield is flat, doors and rear glass are curved. So I'm thinkin' it's cuz the front is fixed and framed, and the other 3 sides are hinged and frameless. Here's what I found:

Pilkington
Tempered
43R-001546 (which I'll speculate is the glass type)
E1 (inside a square) followed by AS2-M550 DOT614 (safety standards?)
e1 (inside a circle) followed by 000288 with a 0 centered underneath (another safety standard?).

Hopefully somebody smarter than me can run with these numbers and come up with more specifics as to the lamination versus tempered versus safety glass aspects
