These wide turf tires are great. So great, I doubt that I will ever re-install the Ag tires. Although the turfs are unloaded, they're nearly 24" wide and I am easily taking hillsides that once cause extreme pucker factor when the Ag's were mounted.
Haven't been around in a while, congrats on the new tractor TripleR! Definitely a very nice and finely equipped tractor!
TripleR,
See you finally took the leap - hope you enjoy the new toy. I've had mine for a little over 2 years now. I can't compare it to anything else since it was my first tractor. It's served me well for near 700 hrs now - mostly grapple (in the woods) and field work. Considering your desire for easy access, thought I should mention my experience with my wide turf tires. When I bought my L5740 it came with loaded Ag tires. Even with heavy attachments front and rear, I felt uncomfortable on more than one occasion. Center of gravity just seemed too high sitting in that closed cab. A while back, I bought some wide turfs for this tractors. Not only to protect my newly finished pastures, but to also lower my butt closer to the ground (about 5" lower). These wide turf tires are great. So great, I doubt that I will ever re-install the Ag tires. Although the turfs are unloaded, they're nearly 24" wide and I am easily taking hillsides that once cause extreme pucker factor when the Ag's were mounted.
One final observation - it has been my experience that driving a L5740 across rough pastures/fields will crack ribs and bust kidneys no matter what kind of tires you have mounted. Unless you take them to a golf course finish, you're in for a very rough ride at speeds over 2-3 mph. One other thing - my auto throttle stays off. I prefer to adjust from the column.
Thanks, I hated to spend the money on the extras, but you only live once dang it; not sure I could handle it again though.
I sure know what you mean about the center of gravity, height and feeling of stability. The most stable feeling tractor we have ever had and still own it is a Massey Ferguson 375 we bought new with turf tires. You also sit astride the transmission hump lowering your seating position more. That thing was like a mountain goat. I never felt uncomfortable on that tractor. I can't drive it anymore, so my brother has it out at our flatland farm and he put Industrial tires on for better traction.
The L5740 is so similar in size to our old L5030 that I feel pretty confident if not "comfortable" driving it on our hills. My experience has been that the L5030/L5740 is more stable than it "feels". It took me quite some time to develop a certain level of confidence in its stability. My son grew up driving tractors on our hill farms, so his comfort level far exceeds anything I will ever feel. On really steep stuff, I just wimp out and drag the M8540 out; much better for the ole nerves.
Having grown up driving tractors with steel seats and using non suspension seats occasionally until a couple of years ago, I guess I am more use to a rough ride, so the L5740 doesn't seem so bad though it is far from smooth compared to the M8540. I have posted elsewhere that I have parked the GL and pulled the M8540 in really rough areas at one of our farms when mowing a particularly rough section, other times I just slow down. 4Shorts and DDT have put air ride seats in theirs and I might look into that some day.
Appreciate the input on the ATA as I am in the process of learning to use mine. I only have about six hours on mine and have to admit, I have a lot to learn to take full advantage of the features. The HST "sensitivity" is something I am just not seeing any use for yet and am running it in the middle; any input from any HST+ operators on any of the features is welcomed.
I would love to see some pictures of your 5740.
The Grand L series are great tractors and I have been looking at one for awhile now......but I was hoping that Kubota would at least offer 2 options that I'd like to see for the Grand L.
1. An Air Ride seat option.
2. Veritical Exhaust option.
I know Deere has both these options on the 3000, 4000 series tractors and would like to see Kubota offer these also.

What is the advantage of a vertical exhaust?
