Utility trailers - what should i know?

A lot of good info covering what you asked about. You also got good advice, imho, about Diamond C trailers. They are great! A dealer name or two was mentioned so let me mention one you need to check out. They probably are not too far from you and are really good folks. No, I do not work for or own anything related to this business. They are just good people.

Good luck on your search!

I cannot find axle upgrades on the Stagecoach website. I did find them at Texline. I drive right by their factory on my way to my property. I think I am narrowing it down to Stealth 77" x 12', maybe 14'. Single axle with upgrade to 5000 GVWR. I'd like the weight of the trailer to be around 1000 lbs so the UTV can move it around, but also have enough capacity to haul the UTV as well. The UTV my wife wants is about 2100 lbs and can tow 1500.
Go with at least 16'. You'll be glad you did for the difference in price.

It depends on preferences. I prefer a single axle trailer for misc general moving of small tractors, attachments, etc. The 14' single axle is very maneuverable and handles so well with an F-150. I would not have taken a 16' at the same price. Matters a lot what your load is of course.

Everything is preference.

Im going by my experience on almost every trailer Ive had. I constantly bought bigger, never smaller. But I do have a small single axel trailer and my welding trailer is single axel.

From what the OP said about his intended use I can see him, like I was, needing bigger rather than complaining that the trailer wasn't small enough. And the price difference is minimal.

But you are absolutely correct that everything is about personal preference!

They don't make a 16' single axle. I have zero interest in a dual axle trailer. I know I can move a single axle trailer by hand. I am too old to try to muscle a dual axle trailer. The dual axle ones also are too heavy for the UTV.

95% of the time, it will just be on my property moving tools, brush, etc. It may need to be on the road at times to pick up or deliver within about a 20 mile radius.

You can buy light duty single axle trailers of various lengths at tractor supply company.

The TSC trailers are only 6' wide. Not one single axle is 16' long and I need 4-5k GVWR.

I agree in general. Me too. However Stagecoach does make a 16ft. single axle trailer of a couple of different styles at least shown on their website at Trailer Info As I said in Post # 110 (if you really are in the market for one) you are best off going through a dealer. I got several options / features on my 14' single axle that do not show on the website but can be discussed and probably available. For example I did a $200 upgrade on mine (2017) to give me a 5200lb capacity axle with 6 lug wheels vice the 3500 lb., etc.

Sorry about my lack of clarity. I meant Texline. The factory is less than 30 miles from my place. I may try to visit them tomorrow. I'm sure they will customize for a price. I like the size of your trailer.

Kearney has an outlet in Tyler. They may be another option.
