Self driving cars will get their drivers killed

So here is the thing.... if the bus had been self driving it would not have pulled out in front of you and thus there would have been no need for you to do what you did.
Really?

Elon Musk had to buy twitter to stop the guy from tracking his jet...people don't think that hacking anything on EVs sophisticated programs is not going to be a primary target of every black hat out there...and then some...better think again...!

I can see it now on the 101 when it's bumper to bumper for miles and every tesla all of a sudden turns left...or floors it...etc...!

Not just EVs but most, if not all modern cars. They're all connected and have an IP address. Presumably someone who knows it could hack in and wreak havoc. A few years ago I saw something on tv where someone had done this (as a test, and with the knowledge of the driver) to a pruis. He was able to steer, accelerate, brake all from a laptop!

Given that you don't see many occurrences of this (yet) I'd have to guess that these systems are quite secure.

Sure does make me wanna go out and buy a tech-y new car. NOT.

And 53 years later...... See where we are.

Bidet just signed in a thing that requires all cars have to have remote remote kill switches by 2026.

I'm not seeing anything bad by this ....?
Definitely keep car thieves from not going as far..New car dealers will absolutely love it....

The fact is during the 60s-70s muscle car era while true from the factory, exception being the super stock cars, weren't all that fast but they gave you the building blocks (no pun intended) to go fast. Top fuel, the fastest drag cars, 1/4 mile times in the 3s at over 300mph and motor based on Chrysler Hemi, cranking out 11,000 h.p.
We drag raced...and yes one could argue you pay $120,000, buy a Tesla Plaid it rides nice and it's fast...but any idea how fast you can go with $120K building something out of your home garage?
I'm not impressed.
I bought my RD400 for $600 and put about $1000 into it and ran 11.92s. That's not the point.

Also, top fuel is not 1/4 mile. It's 1000 feet. 320' shorter than 1/4 mile.

DOH! Reality check! :p

Yep. If all vehicles were self driving and interconnected, they'd not get into the crashes that humans cause by bad/poor decisions, slow reaction time, inattention, distraction, etc.

Of course, going to work would be about as exciting as the It's a Small World ride at Disney, but hey, more of us would be alive and insurance costs would go down.

That is true if technology can be advanced to where it has a high degree of certainty. There would be way less crashes, and the government would certainly be keeping us safe. Perhaps we should expand it to all things in life? We should live in government supplied apartment buildings that have been deemed safe for our existence. Certainly individual property ownership leads to potential for accidents. And by all means we should advanced vegetarian factory foods, because that would certainly save the planet. oh, and my owning a gun can really lead to an accident, certainly need to ban those.

Of course I’m saying all this in jest so please don’t come at me with fires and pitchforks! I believe the real argument is what level of government intrusion do we want in our world? Driving on the road is a privilege, not a right. When we start taking away all risks in the name of safety it starts a slippery slope.
