Mowing Air Tunnel Finishing Mower

/ Air Tunnel Finishing Mower #11
I bought a new set of blades for my riding mower last year. I thought I'd be smart and get the new "high lift" kind. Well, they may have been high lift but they didn't generate enough sideways wind to discharge the clippings. As a result they just kept building up under the deck and one time built up so much that the strain snapped one of the blades off. I went back to the regular, low-tech blades and the mower works fine.

Lesson learned (again) - use the recommended replacement...

Just a point on the Landpride.

I have a Landpride 5 foot side discharge finish mower and really like it. However, a couple of years ago, I bought some replacement blades from the same dealer that sold me the mower. They fit OK, but the mower never mowed as well. I noticed after inspecting the blades, that they did not have nearly as much lift to the blade as did the originals. I think that the dealer sold me a set of generic blades.

This time I went to another dealer and specified Landpride blades. These will suck the grass right out of the ground. The cut is much better - just like the originals.

Be sure to ask for name brand blades, or at least compare the lift of the new blades to the old.

Now I know better.

The low lift are sometimes known as sand blades - I believe as they are used for grass on sandy soil and you do not want to be blowing sand around.. I bought them to do my first cutting of my grass runway as I didn't want the new established, short root grass to be pulled out of sandy loam ground. Now I have switched back to high lift.
