Battery powered chainsaw

Do you only have the one 5 amp/hour battery ?

What voltage is the battery "

How long did this battery last while cutting ?

With my Ryobi 14" with the 40 4AH battery, i was only able to cut for about 10 to 15 minutes before the battery was depleted. Even with these limitations, I am happy with the Ryobi.

Richard
As mentioned, 56V. My first tree was about 16" at the base of so. I was able to cut it down and up plus take down a couple of smaller trees on one charge. As mentioned, i did overheat the battery that still had 1/3rd or so of it's charge left. I was cutting 18" - 20" sections from that big tree that i cut. It was on the 80's and i ended up putting the battery in my 70° house to cool it enough to charge.

Since i only have to use the saw only occasionally and not for a living, it's limits are something that i can live with.

I only have the 5 amp battery that came with the saw. When i buy the EGO pole saw, i have to decide on going with a 2.5 or another 5amp battery.

Being able to cut a few limbs, set the saw down, clean up the limbs and not have the saw idling or restarting it was worth the process of admission.

I just ordered Greenworks 80v 18" saw. I got an email with promo code. 2000002 for $242 before tax.
Is that with a battery? Lowes had the 18" EGO reduced from 399 to 369. Being on sale, they would not include the military discount but they did match Amazon's 351 price. The saw came with the 5amp battery and charger.

The black EGo charger is slow and doesn't have a fan. I believe the gray chargers and all new have a fan. If the battery is hot it will not charge but it will run the fan until it cools and finishes charging.

The EGo battery is designed to have air flowing through via fan.

I recently bought the little Makita 10 inch saw. (It takes the same 18v batteries as the drill and driver, so same charger etc)

Dang that thing is the most DANGEROUS saw I've ever handled. There is NO feedback between the saw, MY BRAIN, and the trigger finger. The saw chain starts spinning just about every time I pick the saw up, or prepare to start in on a new limb.

Yes, I know it's me, but having the engine running on a gas saw has NEVER made me feel like a hazard to myself.

Call it conditioning.
Doesn't it require two triggers for use? My DeWalt has the trigger and a button the side of the grip that both have to be pushed. It's designed so that you don't touch both while carrying. It's not hard to get to the button but I have to move my thumb to a spot it doesn't naturally go to to press the button.

Called an "Operator presence lever", most pro saws now have this as a large lever or paddle hinged into the grip. As long as your hand is on the grip, the lever is actuated, and you can pull the trigger.

As the name would imply, it's designed to prevent the trigger from being pulled when an operator isn't "present", such as might accidentally happen when moving branches around with the saw laying on the ground in close proximity.

Yes...
And on ebay a seller has 80v 5AH battery (new) $79 free shipping. It fits Greenworks, not original but 100%+ reviews. I'll have both batteries with me, inverter & charger if I have a lot to cut.

This morning it was delivered to my garage door. Super fast shipping and I tried it on a large oak tree. It has about same power as my Sthil MS291 except quiet and no fumes..
I'm thinking quiet is a good thing not just for hearing but if a limb were to break. I'm very happy.

I am currently selling my DeWalt 60V 16” chainsaw. It just doesn’t get enough use.

The only downside to my 80v saw is the fact that it's significantly heavier than my 40cc gas saw, and when the battery is dead, I have to stop work. The gasser runs longer on a tank of fuel, and I can fill it in less than a minute and keep working. Electric saws are great for hobbyist use, but not storm cleanup or land clearing.

I'm not up for all day land clearing, but once I have logs piled up for bucking I can run through several tanks getting them short. Now the splitting requires a break after every tank of fuel.

My back hurts just thinking of that.

Didn't say I don't pay for it...
I bucked 6 tanks worth with the 353 in a day and a bit. Hit some barb wire in a log late in the day and did not feel like restarting after sharping the chain. Logs from tiny to 24"

Milwaukee Power pruner. 8 inch bar. Great for clearing overhanging branches on trails or field fence rows and the occasional downed tree in the middle of the trail.

Cutting overhead branches is a practice many people get hurt at. Get a pole saw and you can move away a bit.

Yeah, I have a extendable Stihl gas powered pole saw I break out for the higher branches. The pruner works great for the lower ones that seem to grow perfectly horizontal right at eyeball level when you are passing by on a UTV. Those are the one that will slap the glasses right off your face and knock the dip right out of your mouth....:geek:

You clear land with a chainsaw? :) I'm too old to run a saw that long. Me and the batteries run about the same length of time. One of the beauties of retirement, I do most things at my own pace.

I bought mine for around the house and for sawing up a branch here & there.
Even guys who clear land still go home to a house & property that needs lawn mowing, landscaping, etc.

I’m not breaking out big gas saws for that stuff Lol

I can second that. Kombi KM 131 R engine, with bed redefiner, string trimmer, hedge trimmer, pole saw, and a smattering of extensions. Very useful bit of kit for getting done just about anything around the house.

A pole saw can also be useful for cutting branches under high or unpredictable loading, from big blown-down trees, while keeping you a few feet outside the firing zone. I've known more than one case of someone getting taken out by such scenarios, being too close to the work, when pressure released differently than predicted or expected.

I have the 131, too. Very nice.
