Oil & Fuel Fuel cans

4570Man - that's my exact thought. The attendant could not care less what I'm doing out there.
I have four GI 5-gallon Jerry cans. Got them from a military friend in '65 and brought them down from Alaska when we moved. No drip, no spill, rapid empty. But Lordy - lifting a full can and holding it almost blows my bladder.

Time is coming - I'm gonna have to figure some alternate way to lift those cans.

Buy one of those drum pumps, then cut down the suction tube so it fits in your can. The threads are the same as your GI can lid. Then connect a hose to the pump spout and leave the can on the ground as you pump fuel.

Fill 3 cans to 5 gallons and the 4th to 2-1/2 gallons. Fuel the tractor with the 4th can first, then fill the now empty 4th can half-full from another can. A half-filled can is twice as easy to lift as a full one.

i'm surprised your gas station lets you fill up your "oil jugs" with diesel. you must know somebody :)
No I don't... I go to the station (not always the same one) and fill the jugs, over the years I've only had one person say anything to me. (about the color) I kept filling and still go to the same stations, no one has ever said anything to me again.

I do live in a farming friendlily state and not in a city.

I have one of those. Hate it. Trying to hold the 5 gal can while you push and hold down that spring button while fuel SLOWLY gurggles away. I like my VENTED VIP Racing can.

Agreed. The no spill cans are nice for filling small tanks but too slow to dump the whole 5 gallons.

I’ve used those and they don’t have many good options to rest the can while they’re pouring and the funnel is a hassle to have to clean every time.
What do you have? Girly arms?? :ROFLMAO:

Chuck the attached funnel and get a real one. Drop it into the fuel hole, rest can on edge and open the flood gate works just fine needing a ladder for the fuel filler on the JD.
I have a 50 gal transfer tank with a 120 volt pump all mounted on a plastic skid/pallet. I fork it into the back of my truck when it needs refilling. Leave it on the garage floor and fill the NH that way. Skid takes up a lot of real estate that I'm not sure I'd give up if I had less room.

Still looks to be too heavy for me. I've taken to doing it 2 gallons at a time.

With 5 gallon container, I first sit it on the hood and put a syphon in it to take most of it out before pouring the last in.
For the first couple gallons I just rest the jug on the hood and tilt so the spout is in the tank opening. Usually I'll use a funnel. Once the jug is down to 1/2 or so I'll just lift & finish filling. 5 gal jugs here. Don't really have a problem lifting them (yet).

Agree those modern spouts are worthless, replaced all of mine with the replacements they sell for "water jugs" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
Now can drain 5 gallons in 30-40 seconds. Not a single drop spilled.
I don't think the screen on the filler neck on my tractor will take fuel that fast. Maybe 1 gal/min.

I doubt the $11/hr clerks at most convenience store/gas stations notice or even care what you're using.

You must live in one of them Communist states. In red (?) blooded Conservative states like MS, no self respecting convenience store owner would ever pay more than the $7.50 minimum.
( ;-) )
More to the point, my go-to funnel for my Kubota is the top half of a gallon milk jug. The particular one I use has a neck that's fortuitously a press-fit into the plastic neck of the Kubota's tank. And my favorite diesel cans have been 2.5 gal cat litter jugs. I'll have to start recycling my big oil jugs into diesel duty in the future.

Maybe referenced somewhat before, but I too cannot easily lift a can up to my tank inlet, but have found these inexpensive battery operated pumps extremely easy to use. They will not totally get all the fuel out of the can, but what remains can then be easily poured into the tank.
